Source is 1080 but Sage records in 480

I am using SageTV to transfer shows from my FIOS box to my computer via a Hauppauge HD-PVR. Everything was working fine until suddenly my shows started recording in 480 instead of 1080.

The source video is 1080 and I have my Recording Quality in Sage set to "Best". I have made no changes to the other settings in Sage. I am using component cables between my FIOS box and my HD-PVR (as was the case before).

I think this may be a simple fix but I just can't figure it out. Is there a way to "force" Sage to record in 1080?

This forum has been very informative in the past, so I thank everyone who contributes.

I didn't think the HD-PVR ever scaled anything when recording, which means that the STB is likely only putting out 480. Check your STB settings to make sure it's still enabled for 720 and 1080 output

You need to to do two things in the Motorola settings:
Video format: 1080i
SD Override: OFF

The latter is important if you record SD channels ever. Additionally, depending on your set up, the SD Override will get reset to 480i which is the stupidest default ever.

(In my set up, the HDMI handshaking is out of whack so if my TV isn't fully powered up before the A/V receiver is powered on, the SD Override is reset -- it's a bug of sorts in the set-top boxes.)
