External Subtitles for ripped movies on HD200?
I can't figure out how to get ripped movies to show subtitles. My subtitles are save as an external file of the same name as the movie (except for the file extension)
I have a large collection of ripped movies in my Library that I can access through the HD200 in stand-alone or also through media import folder on my HD200 (Connected to SageTV server) I can view CC (Closed Captioning) on my TV shows just fine and that's not what this thread is about. I need to be able to watch my movies with external subtitles if I want. Especially for my foreign films. Currently my work-around is to use XBMC to watch ripped movies when I need subtitles. But I'd rather just use my HD200 for everything. I'd prefer to do it in SageTV (SageMC) but I'll settle for HD200 in stand-alone. |

Did you turn them on in the options? It looks like every time I play a movie I have to turn subtitles back on. I haven't checked to make sure that is what is going on, but it seems like it.

There is no option for subtitles that I can see. The closest thing is Closed Captioning but when I enable that (CC1 or CC2) nothing happens.
Remember this thread question is regarding external subtitles for ripped movies in the media import folder not Closed Captioning. Does the HD200 even support external subtitles and if so what file format must they be in? XBMC will take just about any text file it'll even read them from a .rar file. If I need to re-save my subtitles to another file format I'll do that. |

While watching the movie, press the info button, and check the checkbox for Subtitles. I have mine along side the movie(and I occasionally embed them when I have time) in srt format.

I have my subtitles in an SRT text file. It has to be the same name as the movie, with only the extension being different. I also have to turn on subtitles each time I watch the movie, even if I stop halfway through and resume later.
I am using the HD200 in extender mode. I am not using SageMC; I am just using the default STV. |

Ok, I see you don't even get the subtitle option to show up until an .SRT file exists. Problem is that 99% of my movies were ripped with AutoGK and the subtitles are IDX/SUB format not SRT
I found a tool called "subrip" that will convert http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/1...ert-sub-to-srt But it's basically an OCR program that you have to teach. I'm not looking forward to the painstaking process of converting them. |

Or you can download them, just google it.

Any downloaded SRT would likely have a shift in the timeline plus or minus a few seconds or minutes.
I converted a few yesterday, it takes about 5 minutes to train the OCR. But I have to retrain for each Movie because of fonts & colors. |

Any shift in subtitles is easy to correct with Subtitle Workshop. As long as the text-based titles are of good quality, this should be faster than re-training your OCR.
SRT subs either come from someone else's OCR work, or someone else's manual transcription. So if you're doing your own OCR, you're just likely duplicating work. There are usually dozens of subtitles available on the net for every movie. The more obscure the movie, the harder it may be to find, so YMMV.

I ripped my dvd's to video_ts folders with the subtitles and had no problems viewing them. If you are using SageMC, I'm not sure if its the same for the default interface, you can press the up arrow on the remote and then choose from the subtitle or audio tracks while the movie is playing.
