Subtitles getting cut off - HD200
Hi all,
I am testing adding subtitles to some of my foreign language DVDs that I am ripping to h.264. The first one I tested was Amelie. When I play it back in its native format, which is in 2.35:1 aspect ratio, the subtitles try to stay in the black bars, which cuts off the second row of subtitles. It I tell the extender to stretch the movie, then the subtitles are visible. Is there a setting to tell sage were to place the subtitles? It seems like sage is trying to keep the subtitles in the black bars, and it will just not fit. Thanks, Josh |

I see the same thing sometimes, but with the original DVD rip. I've not found a solution, so it would be nice if anyone could give a hint.

Do any of the subtitle options available during playback help? Use the options command during playback & you should see the subtitle option item.

SageMC does not have that option, but I switched to the default STV, and it does have the options, but when I change them it has no effect on the subtitle output. After changing the settings a few times it also resulted in locking up the extender. It is hard to tell if the options are trying to work, or if they have no effect on the extender. Thanks, Josh |

The vertical setting (subtitle/vpos) does not work for me either. Must be a bug. Did you report it?

I was testing with a movie only rip of Star Wars. I only saw the top half of the characters in the forced subtitle at the bottom of the screen. I tried using the menu to move the subtitle but it stayed at the bottom. I just setup SageTV this weekend. So I thought it was just me. My setup is HD200 connected via wired Ethernet to Windows Home Server. I have the latest updates on both the server and the HD200. My connection to the TV is VIA component cable. I am only using this for standard definition right now not HD. I have an older Sony tube 4:3 TV that supports 480p and 1080i. I tried setting to 1080i it displays black bars top and bottom and was able to see the subtitles in that mode but I had to use the zoom function to get the correct aspect ratio. So the subtitles are there they just show up off the bottom of the screen.

What SageMC software version are you using?
What type of file format/conversions are you movies rip to? .iso .ts .mkv??? DVD's to .mkv is OK with subtitles Bluray to .mkv is not OK (for me that is) with subtiles Bluray to .m2ts is OK with subtitles. I also found that Bluray's in .m2ts does have a better playback quality. No stuttering/choppy video playback |

As far as I know you find the subtitle settings only in the original STV or in the properties file. In any case this is not a sagemc issue Im sure.
My DVDs are ripped in full in folder structure (VIDEO_TS) and I have this problem on both my 16:9 hdmi connected plasma and the 4:3 tube over composite. Changing aspect from "source" to one of the "fill" options solves it but distort the image as well. Rasmus
