Client keeps re-asking server's IP address each time clinet is launched

Any suggestions? (ticket filed)

New fast hard disk (SSD), New windows XP installation, re-installed Sage Client.
Now each time it is run, it repeats Server Discovery, finds the one server I have, shows its PC name and LAN IP address correctly but pops-up a request for me to enter the IP address even though it already found the server and it's the only Server.

I tried entering things in response, but it always produces the pop-up.
After each time doing this, it runs correctly.

What's wrong?

You need to edit the sageclient properties file. I believe the entry is autoconnect_server_hostname=

theres also a setting somewhere in Detailed Setup -> Advanced (i think) -> Auto Connect.... it toggles between false and the currently connected server's ip address

Simple problem with client

Using 6.2 server and 6.2 client for a long time. Stable. Do NOT want to change for risk reasons, and don't want the UI to change (WAF).

Client used on desktop PC for a long time.
Put new SSD drive on PC, reinstalled same Windows XP and reinstalled same Sage Client.

Problem now: Each time client is launched, pop-up appears showing the host name and IP address of the Sage Server. This is after "searching for server", as if the client isn't "remembering" the server's address. Thus, each time I have to click OK/accept. Then client runs OK.

How to correct this and eliminate the pop-up?

(Sage support's suggestion: Install newer version of both server and client and see what happens. That's not at all helpful.)

* merged with existing question *

Had same problem. In 6.6.2 Client it's under Detailed Setup > General > Automatically Connect to Server. Your choices are "No" or the current IP address of your server.

Maybe support didn't understand how you could have missed the section of the manual titled "Starting SageTV Client", which includes a section titled "Configure SageTV Client to Connect to the Server" on page 18 (p. 17 for v6.2) & thought you were having a more difficult to solve issue. BTW: you started a second thread with the same question even after people had started answering you, so I suggest that you shouldn't start referring to the forum users as the smart folks with an insinuation that someone else isn't.

I would not intentionally start two threads with the same topic. If I did, it was an error, and I apologize.

As to the rebuttal, I've sent a lot of money to Sage over the years I've used it, and know it pretty well. That client setting is an obscure one, used once at installation and never again. So it's reasonable, I say, to not recall it.

Really?

Aside from hardware costs, I've got three clients and a server and have had upgrade after upgrade since version 2 and I'd be surprised if I've actually given SageTV over $200! A real bargain if you ask me....
