Changing the server's placeshifter port
I need to change the SERVER's placeshifter port. Any way to do this. Bear in mind that I am aware that I can change the FIREWALL's listener port, but the server still listen's on 31099. From what I can tell, the option in the menu merely changes the locator ID's assigned firewall listener port, not the actual server port. Correct?
I am dealing with a router which only does same-port forwarding. So in other words, my router does not have the ability to listen on port 80 and forward to port 31099. It can only listen on 80, forward to 80...or listen on 31099 and forward to 31099. So what I need to do is to change the port that the Sage server is repsonding to. I need to change it from 31099 to 80 or 21 or one of the standard ports.... Can I just edit the properties file? I see there is: extender_and_placeshifter_server_port=31099 This seems to be the port the server actually listens on. Can I change this or will it hose my extenders? I need to have placeshifter working on an allowed port so I can watch from work. Again, my router does not allow me to forward 80-to-31099. Only 80-to-80 (and so on). You can change that property, but if you do so, then your MVP(s) won't work. (I think you have an MVP since you mentioned your extenders.)
Does your router have UPnP capability? If so, enable it & try it that way on the placeshifter connection config wiz screen. I can't manually forward from one port to another, on my router, but it will allow UPnP to do it. - Andy

Nah, my router is pre-uPNP. I think I'll just rpelace the router.
That way I can setup a direct 31099-to-31099 forward for , as well as an 80-to-31099 forward for the more restrictive networks. Incendently, where does the MVP get its definition for what port to talk on? Is it burned into the bin file? |

OK...so guess what. Logged into my router and checked. It DOES have UPnP. I didn't know that. Now why would they allow the router to do mixed-port forwarding via UPnP and NOT manually? Grrr....
Anyway, it is working now. Thanks Opus! Would you believe I am a network engineer by trade and never really knew what UPnP did? All I knew is it was something that made things easier for non-techfolk. |
