Internet Sharing
I need some help and hopefully gain some knowledge on networking and internet sharing.
I recently moved and conveniently its right next to my friends computer repair shop where he provided me with the password to his wireless network. I would like to share this internet with my whole network. My network: linksys N-router. Default IP/DHCP configurations using IP 192.168.1.xxx. SageTV server (2 network adaptors and wireless adaptor)(vista) HD200 2 laptops (wireless) My friends network: DHCP providing an IP of 192.168.0.xxx So in a nutshell- I want my sagetv server to share the internet from the wireless adapter to my network. USB Wireless>sage server>router>hd200/laptops. Just clicking "share internet" in the wireless adapter properties didn't cut it haha.. I think theres DHCP issues from 2 routers (?). Any info on would be great. I need help from start to end.. Would bridging the wireless to the router work? If so, how do I configure the router's IP settings? Which port (on my router)do I plug my Sage server if the internet is bridged and/or if the internet is shared? -does that make sense? Thanks, Jeff |

Does your router have an option to be set as a Wireless repeater/bridge? Your router then would log into his network and then share that internet connection across your network. I've done this in my own home so that I could wirelessly connect a MediaMVP in my garage to my home network (had the MediaMVP hardwired to the secondary router). I have never tried this though where I didn't have direct access to both routers....

Paulbeers,
thanks! There was no option for repeating/bridging. I used to have a belkin router that did that but I donated that when I upgraded to an N router. Well it only took me about 6 persistent hours to figure it out but I think I got it now.. I knew it was an IP issue but I had to also disable "NAT" So, finally got it working with the following config: Wireless adapter connected to my friends network. In the properties, this is set to be shared Sage server connected to my router. DHCP disabled and NAT disabled. Rebooted all my devices to renew the IP addresses and BINGO! So easy but so hard.. Now the hard part, Bug my friend to open some ports for me |
