SageTV Client Video access
Hi,
I have a working installation of SageTV (latest official release) with a few extender and one SageTV Client. Everything is working fine except for the videos when I'm on the SageTV Client. I can see all of the files but can't read them (Playback problem) and the log is telling me that it is an access problem. From the SageTV client PC, I'm able to mount the shared drive that has the videos under the username that is starting the SageTV Client. This drive is read-only for everyone and fully read/write for the group in which this user is. When I look at the log on the fileserver side, I see numerous access related to "Anonymous" but I can't tell for sure they are generated by the SageTV client but first signs seems to indicate such. So, my question is simple. How SageTV client is accessing the videos? I know it is doing it directly using the UNC (which is not the case with the extenders that use the server credential through the SageTV server) but I means is it supposed to use the credential of the end-user running SageTV client or it is coming as a "guest" or "anonymous" user? If so, is there a way to tell SageTV Client to use a specific user? (Like for the SageTV Service?) This is the only thing not working since I've replaced my fileserver (integrated SMB on OpenSolaris) and I've not found why yet. I can access my MP3 files from this same SageTV Client (which either means they are streamed from the server or, if it is similar to the videos, there is something different somewhere in my setup or the way it is handled by SageTV). Any idea? Thank you. ehfortin |

What happens if you try to access the videos manually just using your OS. Like on windows if I went to \\server\videos\... etc and tried to play one of the videos in Windows Media Player.

Hi,
Accessing files directly from the shared drive is working fine. But any access to shared drive while connected with a specific user is made under the credential of this user. That's why I'm trying to figure if SageTV Client is also using the user credential or is going in with anonymous/guest access (which are not configured on my file server and I would like it to stay that way). Let me know if you have any experience or information with this. Thank you. ehfortin |

SageTV Client should be using the credentials of the logged-in user to access files it can reach directly over the LAN. So the question is, can it reach those files directly? What file path does it show for those recordings in the Recording Detail screen? That's the path the client will use to access them, so it had better be meaningful on the client machine.
