DVDs Won't Play on SageTV Client

Hello,

I can't get DVDs that have been ripped to my SageTV server to play on my SageTV Client.

The DVDs playback correctly with my two HD-200 but the SageTV Client gives a playback exception error. Is this a codec problem?

Thanks for the help,
Will

Do you have a DVD decoder installed on the client? Can it play DVDs from a local rip or DVD drive?

Are the ripped folders visible to the client over the LAN? Did you use UNC paths to import them into Sage? Basically, the client has to be able to access the files using the same path information the server uses.

Also, it never hurts to post the exact text of the error message, including error codes, since that may help someone narrow down the problem.

The client computer can access the local network share, however I didn't use UNC paths to import them into Sage because the files are on a local drive in the server. If I map the same drive letter on the client would that fix the issue?

I don't have 3rd party DVD decoder installed on the client but the machine is Windows XP MCE and can play DVDs natively.

I am not at home right now, I will have to look up the error message tonight and post it.

Thanks for the help,
Will

All you need to do is share the DVD folders on your Server and then map them using UNC paths to your client.

Secondly, you do need to install a 3rd party codec to play those DVD's. I usually keep a copy of WinDVD that comes with about every computer you buy handy for just this reason.
