DVDs will not play

Ok, i'm hoping there's a simple fix for this.

I have 2 SageTV boxes set up using Cayars 18. One box has a copy of powerDVD installed and one doesn't. Both are outputting video to TV only, using dedicated video cards. I can play recorded TV just fine. But when I try to play a DVD on either machine, all I get is a black screen which flickers for a second, then nothing. No sound, no video, nothing. Just a black screen.

Both are dedicated sage machines with only the software and hardware required to run sage. Both have DVD-ROMS. I have tried using different DVD decoders through sage.

What obvious things can I try first?

EDIT: N/M, I got it working after installing PowerDVD and restarting the computer.
