SageTV 6.6 Closed Caption Question

My hardware in seen in the signature. I can get CC1 with DVD's but not OTA stations.

The FAQ section is seriously out of date on this topic.

I am not sure what to set in my system since the CC does work (on DVD play back) just not on the OTA recordings.

Download windvd 9.0, (trial version is fine) and install.

Select intervideo video decoder as your mpeg 2 decoder under detail setup / Video-Audio.

(I believe this step is no longer required, but in case it does not work, try this step) Verify that your sage property file has this edit "cc_option_enabled=true".

Turn CC on from right click menu.

jerryt, thanks for the reply

I installed the intervideo 9.0. In the Sage detail setup there was no option to use it as a video decoder.

There was no "cc_option_enabled=true" line in my sage property file so I added it after shutting down STV. I have tried both CC1 and CC2

I still have no CC in my OTA broadcases.

Do you have any other suggestions?

There is not any way for CC to be display until you are using the Intervideo Video Decoder.

Edit this line in your Sage property file; (Proper syntax, captial V in InterVideo)
videoframe/additional_video_filters=InterVideo Video Decoder

Then try and select "InterVideo Video Decoder" from; Setup --> Detailed Setup --> Video / Audio --> MPEG 2 Video Decoder Filter --> InterVideo Video Decoder

I don't have these two edits;
videoframe/additional_video_filters=InterVideo Video Decoder
cc_option_enabled=true
and CC is working fine, so if you still have problems verify your sage version is updated to 6.6.2.24
http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43453

I have WinDVD version 9.0 B14.084
Later versions of WinDVD may not have directshow useable decoders. In which case they will not show in Sage.

Earlier Cyberlink video decoders work for CC, but the words are not always displayed correctly. But WinDVD version 9.0 B14.084 displays the CC perfectly.

I dont see what you are using to capture your OTA broadcast. The capture device must also support CC.

jerryt - I checked and am using the latest version of SageTV and have the latest STV updates. I tried adding the InterVideo line in the properties and it did not help, still no Intervideo decoder in the detailed setup

amg - I have added my OTA tuners to the signature. The first tuner in the list is the HDHomeRun, so I think this does most of the recording. I am not sure how to move it down on the list so it is the secondary tuner. I am not sure how to find out if either tuner can do CC. Where do I fund such a thing?

Thanks all of you for your help

Is sage running as a service? Have you stopped the service? Are the edits being saved?

Or, If you have UAC ? Then the sage property file which sage uses is not in the sage directory.

You have to edit the sage property file in the "Virtual Store" folder with UAC in order to see the changes in Sage.

The virtual folder is here; (C --> Users --> [current user's name] --> AppData --> Local --> VirtualStore --> Program Files (x86) --> SageTV)
Note in control panel under folders, under view tab, turn on show hidden files. AppData is a hidden folder.

jerryt - I have UAC turned off, I am running STV as a service and I did turn the service off when editing the properties file. The file was saved and I restarted the STV. I have reinstalled the Corel WINDVD package and same result. I can not use version 9 as you have because they only offer version 10 at this time. I did check the VirtualStore folder and everything is in proper order. The bottom line - still no CC

amg - I have checked and HDHomeRun does provide CC, I am using the latest software and firmware

Thanks for helping, any other ideas?

Try the earlier Cyberlink decoders.

Even the Nvidia decoders were able to do CC.

Until you can select a decoder capable of CC, it will continue to not work.

Very unusual that Sage Property edits don't work???? Are you using server or client. If client then edit Sageclientproperty file.

Do you reopen the property file and find the edits saved in there?
Check for syntax errors. Directshow filter manager is a excellent resource to find the proper "Friendly name" of each decoder.

Something not standard about your Sage install. I have win 7 x64 and intervideo CC works fine, without property edits. It has to be some silly error...

Maybe reinstall Sage.

I have Cyberlink already and have tried it without help. I did open the property file and find it there with the new lines. I agree it has to be some silly error, I just can not find it so far. Will try Directshow filter manager and work more on all the properties files.

Where do I find the 'Native Recording Patch'?

Think I might also do a reinstall of STV.

Will give you an update. Thanks for the suggestions.

There is another method of getting Closed Captions to work.

I use it sometimes, because it allows you to sync the captions.

Take a recording and process it with CCextractor, which will write the captions to a [Name of recording].srt file. Then during playback in sage, the right click menu will have an option for subtitles.

The CCextractor processing of the recordings can be set up to run automatically.

The link started working again and I got the Native Recording Patch. Still no help. Will Try the CCextractor when I get back from a 3 day trip.

I did come across something strange. I am using Windows 7 64 bit. Sage TV needs Java but will only work with Java 32 bit. I installed the Java 64 bit also, just to be sure. It did not help. Probably do not need both versions running but will leave it alone for now.

Thanks for your suggestions
