no sound at all maybe after DVD playback error?

My system has been running non-stop (except for a nightly reset) for 4 years with no issues... until today. I was watching a ripped DVD. I stopped it and played another DVD rip (I had issues ripping it so I didn't know if it would work or not). I got a DVD playback issue - no surprise but now I have no audio in Sage. I have full audio in WMP and in Windows sound manager but not Sage. I looked for anything that might be locking the audio device but didn't see anything. I restarted the PC and it is still the same. The only thing that seems to have happened different today was that DVD crash. I am not sure where to even start trouble shooting this one. Any ideas?

Thanks a lot.

Maybe go into Sage Settings -> Advanced Setup and check to make sure your audio is being rendered correctly still. I can't remember exactly waht screen it is on and what the options are, but i know from the Standard STV if you go to Sage Settings -> Advanced, there is a option for audio renderer under there.

If it were me i would check to make sure that it didn't get corrupted some way some how automagically when playing this bad DVD...doesn't make sense to me that the playback of anytype of content would cause sage to stop playing audio, but its def a place to start..

lemme know what ya find..

I think I have narrowed the issue down to AC3Filter

When I open that I see the input and output graphs moving so there is definitely sound. The other applications (like WMP) that are working don't seem to be passing through AC3Filter. I disabled the output through AC3 but still no luck. I think that has something to do with it though.

Similar - after transcoded playback error for me

Found your thread via a search: same just happend to me tonight, but not after a DVD failure: I tried to select and play an auto-compressed recorded TV show (done as a test) immediately after it showed it was "done" in the compression jobs queue, and it failed to play (gave me an error screen).

Following that: n0thing in Sage has audio. Not recorded or live TV, not video playback, not music.

Confirmed that Windows (I'm on Vista) sound is working fine outside of Sage. Restart did nothing. Changing audio playback mapping via the main menu (and then changing back to default) also nothing.

And this new build was JUST about to be introduced to the wife-like unit!! <ulp!>

EDIT: My problem appears to have been the volume turning down as well (found the fix in other threads: revert from SageMC to the Default STV so you can see the volume slider bottom left, and it was indeed turned to the minimum). Strangely after fixing that trying to watch "Live" or recorded TV all showed in slow motion - with sloooooow looooow pitch audioooooo - - but I cancelled playback, left to go eat dinner, and it somehow "fixed" itself when i got back.

Strange, but refreshing to have errors autocorrect....

happened again

I ended up fixing this problem but never really figured out what finally made the difference (I disconnected the whole receiver and reconnected everything). It happened again today and I was able to fix it pretty quickly this time so thought I would repost in case anybody else sees this. It definitely happened when I tried to play a DVD rip that didn't fully record. I get a DVD playback error and then no sound. I go into setup and have to change the audio renderer from default to speakers then do the same for DVDs. What's odd is when this happened last time I disabled all of my audio except my speakers which are now the default so I don't know why having it set to default suddenly didn't work.
