DVD Playback error
Hi all,
So I installed a DVD player in my HTPC. And want to play movies through Sage. So I stick the DVD in and go to play the movie through sage, then I get this error.. There was a DVDError in playback Details: Key exchange for DVD copy protection failed. Can't playback this DVD-Video disc. To me that sounds like something you would get when you try to play a copied DVD movie, which this is not. The movie I am trying to play I bought at Best Buy. So any thought on what that means Thanks, wwright129 P.S. I CAN play that DVD through the software that came with the DVD drive, so I assume it's a sage issue? |

You are probably using a DVD video decoder that does not support encrypted DVD's. The two I know of are Elecard, and the Hauppauge Intervideo one. Make sure you are not using either of those DVD decoders in the DVD section of Detailed Setup.
P.S. Melbourne rocks .

You know I've been reading your posts for months now and didn't realize that mlb of mlbdude was a refrence to melbourne, fla
Rock on Anyway, I changed the decoder to default and that works except, and I understand why, but it plays in the window on my desktop and not my tv. Is there any way to get it to play on my tv without having to use my video card's tv out with dualview setup. I hate doing that. I had to do that when I tried out BeyondTV. I did notice that under the various methods for decoding it does list the DVD-ROM name, but that returns the same error. So I'm stuck with default? Thanks for the quick response, wwright129 |

What DVD renderer are you using? I "think" if you use VMR9 you can get it to go on a secondary display like that. But don't quote me

yes I am using VMR9. But the TV display is just blank. Hmmm. Do you have to do something special to get it to work under VMR9?

Make sure you have 3D Acceleration enabled as well in Sage. Detailed Setup\Advanced.

You know I've wondered this for a while but I cannot enable 3D acceleration, I never have been able to, I thought that was kind of strange. Any thoughts

Well you need it to to get VMR9. What video card do you have? Latest drivers installed? What happens when you enable it?

I have the nVidia GeForce MX 440 with AGP8X, The drivers were install about 2 or 3 days ago from their website. How do I get 3D acceleration to VMR9. When I click on the Disabled button it should switch to enabled, but it stays disabled. It's like I'm not even clicking on it?
Any thoughts... |

When you click on it, wait a few seconds. On my system it takes a second or two to switch. Maybe it is slower on yours. Otherwise, I am not sure why it won't enable on your system.
If all else fails you can email tech support. They would probably get you a way to debug it better. |

Well I clicked and waited for some time, I even tried clicking on it with my mouse, but disabled still. Weird

there is this property
ui/accelerated_rendering=true also have you bothered to setup the decoder for audio and video rather than leaving them on default I would do the renders as well for both video and DVD |

It sounds like you are trying to view the DVD through the tv-out on the PVR350. The hardware decoder of the 350 can't decrypt DVDs. You may have luck using something like DVD Decrypter and decrypting the DVD locally to your harddrive and then trying to play the decrypted version through the imported videos.

That would make perfect sense, as I am using the 350 for playback through the TV.

Just to note wwright129 I edited my post I guess right when you were replying and gave a possible solution from what I wrote when you read the post.

Well thanks to everyone for their help, I guess theres really nothing I can do except ripping the encryption off of the DVD. Dosen't that leave you with the original .VOB files. How would that play through sage? Dosen't it need to be in mpeg format?
Thanks again, wwright129 |

If you use DVDShrink it will output a folder with all the DVD files inside, then just add it to Sage's library import dir and you'll see it in the Imported Videos section.
FWIW, the 350 can't play AC3 so you'll have to use your soundcard to output the DVD's audio or strip the AC3 and convert it to MPEG. |

Well I tried that and that method is no different than playing the Movie from the DVD player, it still plays within the sage window but not on the tv(probably because it's not in mpeg format). So is there a way of converting from .VOB to MPEG?
Thanks wwright129 |
