DVD Playback error
I just installed SageTV and I am trying to play a DVD. I get the following error:
There was a Playback Error in playback. Details: sage.PlaybackException: ERROR (-5,0x80040218): There was a problem rendering the audio portion of the content for playback. I have tried setting all DVD and Audio settings to Default with no change in behavior. Ideas? Thanks |

Do you have any DVD decoders (DVD Software) installed?

I'm getting this now, too (see my thread "New, weird codec problem"). In DVD playback, all audio codecs (MPEG audio, nVidia, Sage) give an error. For TV, the nVidia audio gives me an error, but the Sage audio still works.

Yes, I have the nVidia decoder installed. The DVD plays fine with WMP 9.

I uninstalled nVidia DVD Decoder version 1.00.58 that came with my Hauppage 150MCE and installed the trial version 1.00.67 from the nVidia website. I can play DVD's but I get no sound. The activation requirements for 1.00.67 are differenct than 1.00.58, does this mean I have to pay again for the nVidia Decoder if I wanted to use the newer version? Thoughts on why I don't get sound or why 1.00.58 doesn't work at all? Starting to regret paying for SageTV and 3x SageClients up front without trial :/

Do you have the audio decoder set to S/PDIF output? nVidias decoders don't support decoding of DVD audio in non Dolby-Certified apps.
And there's an update for 1.00.58, you don't need to pay again. |

Where do I set that? In Detailed Setup, under DVD there is an Audio Decoder Filter setting that is set to MPEG Audio Decoder, the Video Decoder Filter is set to NVIDIA Video Decorder. No where can I find an S/PDIF option (and yes my mobo supports both coax and optical S/PDIF output). It was my understanding that the settings above allow SageTV to use a different audio decoder thus eliminating the limitation of the nVidia decoder not supporting non Dolby-Certified apps.

You need to set the nVidia Audio Decoder to S/PDIF inside it's configuration app, not SageTV.
And no you can't get around the limitation, nVidia's decoder will only decode (not it will passthrough S/PDIF fine) DD/DTS in a non-certified app, ie SageTV. |

Hmmm, I don't seem to have an nVidia Decoder configuration app. Why does SageTV allow you to select a Video Decoder and an Audio Decoder if it's not going to use them as specified? (e.g. nVidia Decord for Video and MPEG Audio Decoder for Audio) Thanks for all your help and please bear with my ignorance, this decoder stuff is new to me

It's there, you can access it from the tray icon when you're using them (do a search, it's come up a few times
).And Sage does use the decoders you specify, however the nVidia audio decoder operates with limited functionality (no DD/DTS decoding) in non Dolby Certified apps like SageTV. |

Can't find it. Nothing in my tray pertaining to nVidia Decoder when the DVD is playing. As I've stated, I have specified the MPEG Audio Decoder for DVD audio, not the nVidia Decoder. I have the nVidia Decoder selected for DVD video only.

Oh, missed that.
Two things, the way Sage instantiates the nVidia decoder causes it's icon not to show (like I said, it's been discussed numerous times). As for the "MPEG Audio Decoder" I don't believe that decoder (which ships with Windows) supports AC3 audio, so that's probably why you're getting errors with it. |

might also want to check this registry setting:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Filters\Video] "DisableTrayIcon"=dword:00000000 If it's set to 1 it'll not show the tray icon. |

There were no values in my registry under
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Filters\Video] so I added the "DisableTrayIcon" DWORD:00000000 but I still have no tray icon. Any other ideas? |
