Apple questions

I'm generally a PC guy and frankly have stayed away from "iAnything" as much as possible, but my wife just got an iPod touch, so Apple has now penetrated our household

So, since I have never even cracked a thread around here dealing with Apple iPod/iPhone interactivity with Sage, and since searching gives just about every thread where anyone has ever written the word "Apple", can someone give me a quick 2-cent version of what I (she) can do with the iPod Touch with regards to Sage interfacing?

(I realize this might be more suited for the "customizations" thread but not all of the answers are customizations-related)...

I assume that with the nielm's webserver installed, Sage can be accessed on the iPod Touch, right? Or are there compatibility issues with Apple (if the rest of everything I do is PC)? What about viewing Sage recordings - can they stream through the webserver and onto the Touch (any special viewer needed to be used?), or do I need to manually convert them through iTunes and load them on? Anything else? TIA.

This is by no means exhaustive...

Nielm's web interface works on the iPhone, but you might want to try the Mobile Web Interface since it is formatted for mobile devices. Note that it's currently targeted toward managing tv recordings and doesn't support pictures, videos or music.

Neither web interface will stream to the iPhone - unless somebody has customized nielm's VLC streaming and I'm not aware of it. You can manually convert recordings from either interface and subscribe to nielm's RSS feeds from iTunes.

AirVideo is a good iPhone app that plays videos from your network (it doesn't integrate with Sage's functions). However, it has a server app that requires a Mac so you won't be able to use it.

I think others may use Orb but I'm not familiar with it.

As I type this Air Video is streaming video from my PC to my iPhone - the server is running on Windows 7 accessing SageTV video stored on my Windows Home Server (HTPC) - so the server does run on Windows

I suppose that this will be the best way of getting video from Sage to an iPad as well, unless we get a Sage Placeshifter app for the iPad/iPhone?
