How to edit out commercials for apple tv?

After I record a show using the Hauppauge HD PVR using SageTV I convert it so I can put it into iTunes. However I have not been able to find an efficient way to edit out commercials. It seems like every editing software wants to convert the product into something different instead of just keeping it in mp4. And I can't find an efficient program to edit the original file.

How are others editing out commercials?
Why doesn't SageTV have this function like EyeTV?

Thanx for suggestion. I am a newbie at video editing. Are there any tutorials for DVRMSToolbox or can you give me some quick pointers? And it seems like I can only edit the already converted mp4 files and not the ts files...when I load a ts file the video lags for about 5 seconds. Tips please

You should be able to open the TS file in the editor program, I don't really have any tips, I've hardly used it.

ts files work, I use it primarily to convert HD PVR ts files for my phone (mkv). the tool is highly dependent on DirectShow being in order on your PC, if you're using codec packs or ffdshow/ac3filter w/ default merit and PCM enabled there could be issues as unwanted filters will join the graph.
