Channel scan or build channel list by hand?
I have been a Sage user for almost 2 years now and use it for OTA. I never had a lot of luck with channel scan (the rotor needs to be adjusted for some channels) so I always just built my channel list by hand out of the channels I know I can receive. My question is this - since I do not have any frq files for my channel list, perhaps I have not setup Sage optimally. Do the frq files allow the tuner to operate more quickly? More reliably? Anything better? Anything worse?
Thanks. ________ FUCKTUBE..COM Last edited by bmac.to; 03-21-2011 at 05:26 AM. |

The frq files ( one for each tuner ) are very important, they hold several values for channels picked up by the tuner ( such as frequency, polarity, etc ... ).
The files are created when you do a scan , if they are empty then that means you did not pick anything up ( mis-aligned sat dish, faulty tuner card , etc .. ). Once the freq file has been populated by the scan, you can add/remove channels manually from it . Here is a sample of what a frq file should look like :

Thanks for response.
I understand what is contained in the frq file and how to create one. In my case, I would have to run a scan a couple of times and then merge them by hand in order to get a complete one. Does having a frq file make anything better? Faster tuning? More reliable tuning? Note that I have been running SageTV with OTA for two years without a frq file - I have just entered the correct physical channel into my channel list. However, if spending the time to create a good frq file has benefits, I will definitely do it. Thanks. ________ BEAT Last edited by bmac.to; 03-21-2011 at 05:26 AM. |

This frq file sounds interesting. I currently have a massive spreadsheet that I use to keep track of my qam channels so I can manually add them if I have to rebuild.
