Can't Mute HD Audio

Can anyone explain why I can mute audio when watching SD television through my SD tuner but when I watch HD television through my HD PVR the mute function no longer works?

The audio bar still shows up and turns red the way it normally does, but sound is still produced from the system so it hasn't actually muted anything.

I am using an Asus P5Q motherboard with onboard sound and a Sapphire 5770 video card with HDMI out. The audio is configured to use Cyberlink audio codecs and the audio is being sent over HDMI through the video card.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

mute (and volume up/down) on the hd200 only effect analog audio. It does not effect digital audio (either over hdmi or spdif). You need to control the volume/mute with the avr's or tv's remote.

It's the same with a client PC, too. You'll have to set your remote volume buttons to control your A/V receiver volume.

I just remember this being an issue from when I used MCE2005. It's the same everywheres I guess.

I do have my remote keys mapped to control volume + / - on my amp. Its the mute function I was concerned about. The mute key on an MCE remote is not mappable to my amp otherwise I would have just done that.

I worked around the issue by using LM Remote Keymap to remap the mute function on my remote to a system mute and now it works fine.

I would still like to know any explanation as to why Sage can mute analog audio but not digital audio; if anyone happens to know the reason please post it.

Thanks,

guessing here but probably because they just pass it along untouched to the system and dont/cant modify the stream in anyway

Exactly. It's not a Sage issue. That's just the way it's supposed to be.

basically, if you don't have an AVR, surround sound isnt' important... if you DO have an AVR, it'd be better to control the volume there anyways.
