SageTV vs MCE: the mute button
Here's a subtle but, for me, incredibly important difference between MCE and SageTV - the mute button.
Sage mutes only the TV - itself. MCE mutes the entire computer. (It actually mutes the entire sound card. But windows handles multiple sound cards so badly that adding a second sound card was an unpleasant solution, I found) So I can watch Terminator 2 but mute it and listen to Dr. Yo's streaming internet radio station on iTunes instead. (We get to hear our action-hero governor enough, thank you.) Very nice.
