On-screen MUTE-is-Active - prominent?

More than once, the WAF suffered because the sound was accidentally muted using the Hauppauge remote.

Is there an easy way to have a prominent pop-up that does not get hidden, alerting the user that the sound is muted?

I'm using the stock GUI
