MVP crashes constantly

My MVP worked great for two years. About 2 months ago it started freezing up when it went into screen saver mode. I couldn't get back to the menu without first unplugging and replugging the MVP.

A week or so later, I started having problems with my router (none of my other networked computers could access the network). I ended up replacing the router. All my networked computers now have problem-free access to the network and to the videos on my Sage server, but the MVP isn't working smoothly. The MVP crashes all the time. Everything works for a while - usually 10-20 minutes or so, and then it locks up. I have to unplug and replug it to reboot, and then it'll work for another 10-20 minutes.

There doesn't seem to be any pattern for the crashes. Sometimes it crashes while playing back a video, sometimes it crashes while navigating the menu, sometimes it crashes while in screen saver mode. In all cases, the MVP crashes don't seem to affect my Sage server. That's been as stable as a rock.

I've tried removing Sage Client, deleting the Client properties folder and then reinstalling Client. It doesn't help.

If the MVP hangs every 10 minutes then it is probably a IP conflict issue. You should check what IP numbers your router is allowed to generate and see if they can conflict with any static IP numbers in use on your network.

Thanks carlgar.

I'm not exactly a tech expert. I have only a surface-level understanding of how networking works. I think I understand what you are saying. I'll play with my router for a while and see if I can determine the problem.

I tried giving my MVP a fixed IP address. That didn't work. Any other suggestions?

I know, I know...

try stopping the sagetvservice and delete the <mvp_macadress>.properties file in the client folder of your sagetv installation. Then restart the service, connect the mvp and reconfigure your settings. That saved me several times...

Best regards

Eyk

Is this a wired or wireless MVP? A wireless MVP needs 2 IP addresses and you may have only provided 1 static IP number.

It's a wired MVP.

My router is a Netgear WNR2000.

It connects okay though?

You might have a hardware or hardwire issue, might try swapping cables up.
