s-video and audio issue

I am going to use SAGE to take some old home videos (VHS) and save them digitally to our media server. I have SAGETV on our HTPC, not set up as a server (the server is a NAS).

I have a VHS player and using the s-video out plugged into one of my Hauppauge 1600 s-video inputs.

I have the audio output put from the VHS connected to one of the line-in's on my HTPC.

I set up the channel and get video, but the audio did not come through.

Then I was messing around with the Realtek Audio HD and enabled the line-in and got audio, but it was about 2 seconds ahead of the video (the buffer delay it seems). In addition, it would always come through my HTPC to the amplifier; i.e. when I attempted to watch regular TV the audio of the TV program would come through along with the VHS audio.

I looked through the channel setup and there is nothing about the audio setup with s-video. I also looked through the manual and could not find anything about s-video input or synchronization issues. A search through the forums also did not reveal a similar issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Plug the audio out from your VHS deck into the audio input on your capture card, not into your motherboard line-in. The capture card needs to process both the video and the audio to produce a multiplexed MPEG stream for recording.

Duuuhhhh! Can't believe I missed that. I read your response and thought, "No way, it can't be that simple. There isn't an audio in on the hauppauge."

Well, I checked it out and couldn't believe it.

GKusnick, thanks for your help. It works like a champ. The wife just sat down and I showed her how to do it and she approves. It'll be a good night.\

Thank,
