Select a specific device / tuner
I just updated from 6.5, and then read about the changes afterwords (oops)
I noted that we have gotten rid of the color calibration for HD-PVR tuners. My only issue with this is that it really helps to have this when your trying to troubleshoot mutliple boxes. This this feature I could specifically choose the box I wanted to work with and then run directTV menus, or work with remote control settings. So my questions is: with this feature gone, how would I go about choosing a specific tuner to be shown in order to do simple troubleshooting. |

Set up as many simultaneous manual recordings as you have tuners, then look at the recording details to figure out which one corresponds to the tuner you want to troubleshoot. (You can then cancel the rest of them.)

I'm not sure how that helps. For instance, let say I want to edit some of the menu settings on one of my direct tv boxes (or for that matter recently I installed a 3rd directTV box to the system)
Now I have no way of looking directly at that feed to manipulate that particular box. Before, with that color calibration setting, I could select that particular HD-PVR and use that feature to look at that particular feed. Right now when I turn on a "live" TV feed I have no way to know which box i'm looking at or to change from box to box. Follow me? |

yeah, just start a bunch of manual recordings, then "watch" the one that's on the tuner/box you want and cancel the rest. Not the most elegant solution, but it works.

Or, go to the channel setup for the tuner you want to work with, and choose to preview a channel... This will guarantee that it is playing back from that tuner. then, do what you need on the STB.

ah, i like the preview channel option. It would allow for testing the remote as well, which is my most common troubleshooting attempt.
I think this is my first official solution by posting in these forums !!! thanks guys !! |
