Channel prioritization

Can Sage prioritize channels? If I have 2 ClearQAM/ATSC tuners and 2 analog tuners and I set a show to record I obviously want the hi def version if possible. Can you set analog backups to the hi def channels or does it do that automatically?

Thanks

You want to change the tuner priority, not the channel. Check this thread:

Airings marked as HD are preferred over SD airings. And, digital tuners are preferred over analog.

I think what Andy is saying is that you shouldn't need to do anything since it's designed to function as you've requested.

The current tuner and airing type priorities designed into SageTV are working well so far, but I would still love the ability to prioritize channels.

This isn't to be able to set an HD airing to record instead of an SD, since that's already covered. But currently, there's no way to restrict nor predict which channel a particular show will record from when it's airing on multiple channels at the same time and both airings have otherwise similar tuner and broadcast properties.

In multi-market reception areas, such as where I am near Toronto, we receive channels from Buffalo in addition to our "locals." The Buffalo stations are the major US networks and the Canadian stations will usually simulcast popular shows. However, Canadian stations have lower power transmitters, sometimes worse color, etc. etc. Generally speaking there's a reason to prefer to record a program from an originating network.

I can set a favorite to a specific channel, but then it will only record from that channel. Not the same thing as prioritizing since there's never going to be a situation where it can drop to the other channel if necessary for some reason (conflict, etc..)

I've been using Sage for a few years and to this day I still don't know how it picks the channel to record from when all other things are equal (same tuner type and same broadcast type). I thought it might be the one with the lowest channel number, but that doesn't seem to be it. Maybe by call sign in alphabetical order? The Canadian stations all have call-signs starting with a "C" whereas the Buffalo stations all start with a "W."

This is especially important for these simulcast situations when one channel is for whatever reason inferior to another. Or inferior to a number of others or what have you. Some markets obviously have more than two channels with the same show at the same time.

Some stuff that I'd love to see addressed in a version 7 for sure.
