Manual reset of directv receivers

For the last couple of months I have had to manually push the reset button on my Directv HD receivers daily. I get a message that either says "You have not received guide data in 1 hour" or the screen is just black and if I push one of the buttons on the receiver it makes a "bump" sound. If I reset the receiver everything goes back to normal and it is good until the next day. This intermittently happens with all of my HD receivers but not my one SD receiver. Anyone else have this problem or know how to solve it. I was also considering if it were possible to set up a windows task that would manually reset the boxes using the serial control utility since I am using serial control connections to change channels..

Any ideas?

If you are talking H20s here, this is usually the result of a short to ground somewhere. Are you using the serial control on your SD receiver as well? If not, maybe that is where the short is. Also, you could have a short in the cable to your Dish.

With my 4 H21's I've been having some problems as well. I was having the black screen issue about once a week, but I replaced a cable and re-arranged things in my rack to get the cooling better and the problem went away. Now I'm having intermittent issues where they will stop recognizing the serial controls. It all started when they upgraded the firmware and now if there's a bump in the USB it won't be recognized again until after the H21 is restarted. I'm working hard to figure out why the USB is having problems, but it was never an issue before.
