Ok, so I've had SageTV running for over a year now without any non self-induced problems . I have an HD-PVR and a HDHR for tuners. Recently, the HDHR stopped working within Sage. I keep getting to the poitn where I'm gong to add it as a tuning device and I see error (-4, 0x80004005) Unable to use the tuner device. I've tried unistalling/reinstalling HDHR software, ripping out the HDHR tuner info in sage.properties, yet nothing seems to work. I get to the point of adding the tuner and choosing "Digital TV Tuner" and it throws that error.

My setup is a WHS machine in the basement with HD200s around the house. I've tried this both on the WHS machine and an HD200.

Any ideas?

-Brian

Oh, I forgot to mention that the HDHR does "work" since when I use VLC, I can view the channels....

Are you running the latest firmware on the HDHR?

there is a guy from Silicon Dust who posts in here sometimes, so hopefully he can help you out.

Have you deleted the .scn and .frq files from the sage directory?

have have deleted them, but I've noticed the .frq files don't get created again. When Sage starts to do a channel scan, I see the system info message that Sage failed to open the HDHR capture device occur.

Well, it's definitely sage in some way.

I installed SaveTV server on another machine in my house, along with the HDHR software and everything works fine.

WTF....

Hmmmm...wierd...I had the same issue last night when all my ATSC tuners stopped working all of a sudden. I have a HDHR and an Avermedia a180 and both of them (rather all 3 tuners) started throwing up the same error. Couldn't figure out why.
Just ended up reinstalling sage, installed the native recording patch beta and copied over wiz.bin, wiz.bak and sage.properties from my old installation. Everything is working fine now.

big poppa pump.....thanks.

Just for the heads up, you uninstalled sage first? then reinstalled?

I tried to reinstall, but could only "modify, repair, or uninstall" when I started the install process. So, I did repair and had no changes.

By copying those files, you didn't lose any favorites or recordings, right?

1) Backed up Entire SageTV folder.
2) Completely uninstalled Sage and deleted the folder.
3) Reinstalled SageTV.
4) Stopped SageTV Service.
5) Applied the latest native recording patch.
6) ONLY EXTRACTED SageMC 6.3.9b_2, Jetty, Batch MetaData latest phoenix jar files (IN THIS ORDER).
7) Copied over all the 3 files mentioned. They retain all data for favorites and recordings and also settings.
8) Modified Jetty.properties for static IP address and port (I also run Sage Webserver).
8) Made sure SageTV service starts under Administrator and not LOCALSYSTEM and started SageTV service.
9) Fired up SageTV server. All settings present.
10) Applied the latest STV update. Installed SageMC 6.3.9b_2 and then BMT.
11) Went about configuring SageMC with the usual settings.
12) Everything is working fine.

Thanks so much.. I'm going to give this a shot today hopefully.

We must have been seperated at birth since my setup is virtually identical to your with add-ons and whatnot.

to be clear, when you removed the HDHR tuners and went to add them again to sage, did you first do the channel scan with the HDHR software? (assuming you are tuning QAM)

if not, try that before reinstalling everything.

(this is the step that should be creating the frq and scn files, i believe)

matt91, yes, I did that. I believe the HDHR software creates .scn files and once the channels are scanned with sage, the frq fiels are created by Sage.

Anyway, here goes! wish me luck

Success!!!

Except for forgetting to copy/paste my server/client rules for SJQ, everything turned out perfect. Thanks a million. If you live close by, I'd buy you a beer....
