HD Priority Logic
I have a question about how the logic works for giving HD recordings a higher priority. I know that if there are 2 airings of a show, one in SD and one in HD, as of a few versions ago Sage should automatically record the HD one. My question is does it have logic to give HD recordings higher priority when the possible recordings are completely different shows? Even if the order of the shows in your favorites manager conflict?
Here is my situation and the reason I ask: My cable company (Mediacom in Des Moines, IA) recently started offering pretty much every single channel in clearQAM. I've gotten this configured and scanned and mapped properly and everything works great. (The new scanning interface in 6.6 is great!) The local networks are in clearQAM HD, and everything else is SD. However, even though most channels are only in SD, the digital still makes for a sharper recording and only takes about 1.5 GB per hour since the stream is already digitized when it gets to you, so overall you get the best experience by recording as much digital as possible. I currently have 2 digital tuners and 2 analog tuners. Say I have 4 recordings on the upcoming schedule at the same time, with 2 of them just being a cable channel (so SD only, but analog OR digital is possible), and 2 of them being on a local network (so HD is a possibility). If the 2 cable channel, SD only recordings happen to have higher priority on my favorites list, and I have the 2 digital tuners set to the highest tuner merit because in general I want as much digital as possible, would sage record the 2 cable channel shows on the digital tuners, and then not have any digital tuners left to record the local network shows, thus recording those shows in analog instead of beautiful digital HD?
In the past the only digital I had available was the local networks in HD, so I just gave the digital tuners a lower merit so the analog ones would be used up first, but now if there's only one or two shows on the schedule at the same time I'd still prefer them to be digital, even if they are only SD.
I hope that was clear as mud. Please reply if you need clarification on anything since this was quite a long and confusing post.
P.S. I just ordered an HDHomerun, so with 6 total tuners (4 digital) available I probably will rarely if ever run into this conflict and this discussion becomes purely academic. That being said, I'm still just as interested in the answer and discussion.
P.P.S. If it helps you know my situation better, the 4 tuners I currently have are the HVR1600, a PVR150, and an HVR1250 set as a digital tuner The analog side of the 1250 is not configured because when I had both set up Sage didn't realize that it could use analog or digital, but not both at the same time and ended up with errors. I sent in an official support request/bug report about this issue and they didn't think it could be easily fixed. Does anyone know if this was one of the changes that came with 6.6?
