I am trying to download the advanced stop stvi but just end up at a page of what looks like HTML. Is this no longer offered? I am using STV3
Thanks for any help.

I would try posting in the forum for this stvi:
http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11603 It's possible that Niel just doesn't know that the link is broken and this would be the best way to let him know. You could also try PMing him.

OK. You can now go back to the wiki page. MultiFunction Stop
I fixed the page and linked to an updated version that has the themed icons for play, pause, etc. This way the buttons match whatever theme you are using. Someone or something keeps messing up the wiki and I try to fix it whenever I can. Gerry

Even if you do you don't get these features for "stop" in the default STV. You do get them in the SageMC STV.

Wow, that is very annoying. Sorry to hear that. Thanks for keeping up with it. Is it you I should PM if I find a broken link there? I do go there fairly often.

I just fixed it because I could. Not in charge of it but it saddens me to see such a wealth of information go to waste like that. And unfortunately it happens enough s that it makes it hard to keep up. We might just need to make sure these plugins and documentation is copied off to be used elsewhere.

My apologies to the OP and everyone else who reads this thread for taking it off track, but this will be my final word on this (in this thread anyways).
<brainstorm><rant>I agree with you Gerry. A wiki seems as like the perfect environment for all this information, but there are so many wikis/blogs/posts that have such good info but are seemingly scattered everywhere; no offense to those who have contributed, the information is invaluable, but it could be a bit overwhelming, especially to those who are just getting started with Sage or looking to add plugins for the first time. I'm sure this has been mentioned before, I think I have read over posts that discuss it, but perhaps we need an all inclusive informative wiki. One that organizes instructions for all plugins, themes, external programs related to Sage. I realize that is the attempted of the wiki mentioned here, but many sections of it are terribly outdated and many plugins, stvis are not mentioned at all. It appears to me that the poor programmers who developed these plugins have written much of the instractions, but have then gotten too busy improving their plugins or building new ones to go back update the info (some have done a great job keeping up with it;don't know how they manage to find time to do it all). As horrible as I am at being organized, I'm an even worse programmer. Maybe this is a project I can take up, with help of course. Maybe all that is needed is a gatekeeper; all the information to be posted in the wiki goes through this person; he or she may organize the info and decide where it goes. Gerry, other than the wiki mentioned in this thread, is there anything like this out there that I may not know about? </brainstorm></rant>

I don't think so. Not Sage related. Now in the Downloads area there is a Guides and Tutorial Section. Where we have a grand total of 7 entries. It is just as I see in the business world. No one really wants to do documentation. And usually the programmer isn't the best choice for being the documenter. Too technical usually and really-they should be programming. Brent has done quite of bit on his website with tutorials, how to's and just good information for SageTV. And that original wiki was put up there with that intent. And there was the start of some SageMC information and guide. Brent contributed to it. nielm took the most advantage of it. But because of the open nature of wiki this has recently become the target of hackers or bots that go in, edit the page with nothing but links to who knows where. I have thought about taking it on myself but it is a huge undertaking. Heck-I still owe Brent a WHS article which I have begun half a dozen times and I am still trying to finish up. Documentation, if done right, is more work than just expanding on an included "readme". If you come up with an answer or a direction I will make sure to contribute.

Hmmm. Let me think about it. Sage is such a great product, and there are so many good plugins, I think they merit thorough instructions; not that they aren't available, but I think it's possible to have a one stop shop for information that isn't too overbearing.
I certainly don't want to step on any toes, because you're right, Brent has done a fantastic job with GeekTonic, and so have many others with their projects. I'll think about it and if I believe I may be able to handle it, I may start a new thread and collect initial thoughts and see what others have to say, then take it from there. Thanks for the input. Cheers

I looks like the wiki has been overwritten by people.
It looks like this is the link (by looking at the diff on the wiki) hxxp://forums.sage.tv/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=6972&d=1216490024 Last edited by jonnydeath; 10-15-2009 at 06:35 PM. |

Yeah, perhaps wiki overwritting is going to be the new spam. The wiki currently has a bunch of links for "medications"
Sad to see.

It does nothing for SEO ranking anymore to do that. All links inside wiki's are now "No Follow" to Google robots.

It sounds like wikispam is worse than spam on the forums... at least for the forum I've got tools that stop dozens of spam attempts per day, plus other blocks that probably stop dozens more that I don't even see.
