Suggestions for specific install order?
I will be doing a full reformat/reinstall of my 24/7 WinXP box. I'm running SageTV 6.6.2 using a SiliconDust HDHomeRun and a Hauppauge HD PVR as tuners.
Any suggestion for a proper install order for that specific configuration? Thanks for your attention. |

I would install the operating system, then all the patches, then the HDHomeRun, then the HD-PVR. Don't use the IR with the HD-PVR, use a USB-UIRT instead to control you set top box. I would also recommend taking images of you computer periodically during the build process. Save the images to another hard drive, not DVDs, since recoveries from DVDs sometimes fail. If you don't own a disk imaging program, can don't want to purchase one, then you could use PING, Partition Image is Not Ghost. If a problem happens during the build process, then you will not have to start over from scratch again. Periodically take images of your system after it is built, then you probably will not have to rebuild from scratch again. I use the HD-PVR IR blaster and it works just fine. However, this was after SageTV support told me that all the Hauppauge software (including the IR blaster) needs to be installed before the SageTV software gets installed.
So I would recommend this order: 1) Operating System 2) Updates to Operating System 3) Removal of all OEM crap if needed 4) Aconis True Image Software (or other image recovery software like PING suggested above) 5) Spybot Search & Destroy 6) latest Hauppauge & HDHR Software and drivers 7) SageTV software

Don't forget system drivers. Motherboard chipset, video, audio, network, tv tuners, etc. All those should be installed before you even begin to do install updates or other software.

Thanks to all for the attention. Per my usual habit, I'm scheduling the reinstall for a month from now. (To give me a month to find all my install disks, passwords, usw.)
