Disable power button on MCE remote?

my family keeps hitting the power off button and killing my PC. is there any way to disable the power button from doing anything?? or do I have to rip it open and cut off that button??

Unless I'm thinking of another remote, that power button is user defined. Just find the instructions and undefine it maybe?

I use Event Ghost and with a Sage and MCE Plugin. I can map the buttons to pretty much anything I want.

I don't know if there is a way to remap the power and MCE buttons without a hack to the driver. Seems like that is why I went with Girder year ago but it has been so long I can't say for sure you can't.

It should suspend/resumethe PC; if your PC doesn't suspend/resume cleanly you may want to fix that instead of breaking the remote. It might be possible to hook & suppress the button, but I've never seen a tool that does that...

FWIW, if you're using Vista you can enable away mode and have the remote not actually suspend the box when an application requires away mode. Sage doesn't currently support away mode (unless Jeff snuck it in), but it would be easy for them to add (ask them).

I can't remember if I published the rev of LcdWriter that sets away mode during recordings, but if it's something that you would be interested in I can check and publish it if it's not.

Would changing the behavior of the "Sleep" button in the Power Options affect this (change it to "Do nothing")?

On a related note is there a way to disable the "Green Button" such that it doesn't start up Media Center? It does go "home" in Sage but also starts up Media Center which totally screws everything up. I tried disabling all the Media Center services but it still seems to launch.

Usually, the MCE power button does the exact same thing as pressing the power button on the computer case. Hence, you should be able to "deactivate" it by setting it to do nothing in the power options.
