6.5.18 and Channel Setup and EPG
The updates to the channel setup are much appreciated - things have become a lot simpler. However, I have got myself into a problem I do not know the way out of.
When the analog shutdown completed 2 weekends ago, I added the new channels and for one channel, I found another channel ID from another market as zap2it did not yet have this channel for my market. Note that my market is the Buffalo, NY digital OTA. The channel in question is WGRZDT3. As it turns out, the channel ID I chose is not always correct and now that zap2it has added the guide info for WGRZDT3, I would like to correct the channel ID. With the new channel setup, this seems like it would be easy. However, when I add the new channel ID, Sage tells me it is incorrect and does not let me do it. One thing I tried was to add another channel - this time I called it WGRZ-DT3 (note the dash) and did not enter a channel ID to see what Sage found. It found something as it calls every program "RTV Network" which is the correct network - note that the channel ID it chose was 11. When I then update the channel ID for WGRZ-DT3 to the proper one (64270 as per the zap2it webpage), it never gets any data. I have a feeling if I could add WGRZDT3 (no dash) without any channel ID, it would probably work. So here are my questions ... .is there any way to override a channel ID even when Sage doesnt want to let you do it? .is there any way to delete a channel? (remapping to default does not delete a channel - it just hides it) .is there something simple I am missing which could fix my problem? Thanks. ________ Toyota Gtv Specifications Last edited by bmac.to; 03-21-2011 at 05:24 AM. |

The station name name for the channel has nothing to do with getting data from Zap2it; it is all ID based. If the enabled channel in Channel Setup has the correct ID from Zap2it, but is getting no EPG listings, then it could be an OTA-only channel, for which SageTV does not have access to the Zap2it EPG listings. If this is the case, just go back to a manually added channel w/a non-Zap2it ID and it will try to get listings from the broadcast stream.
If the channel is built into the lineup that SageTV gets from Zap2it w/o you having to add it, then you should be getting listings. And, as mentioned elsewhere, the way to remove a manually added channel is to reset its logical channel number & it should get removed after the next EPG update finishes. - Andy

Well, that is the problem. This channel does not currently have a cable equivalent channel. So I guess Sage only licensed cable guide info from Zap2It.
I believe Sage was grabbing the broadcast stream when it filled all the program info with "RTV Network". From the channel manager, is there a way to tell whether or not it is using Zap2It or the broadcast stream? I reset the logical number for both channels I added manually (WGRZDT3 and WGRZ-DT3) last night. I will check tonight to see if the channel remains as something I can remap another channel to - it should be completely deleted if I understand your response correctly. Is that enough time for the EPG to be updated? Thanks. ________ Ford Xc Falcon Last edited by bmac.to; 03-21-2011 at 05:24 AM. |

Well, reseting the logical number and waiting for a EPG update does not delete a channel - the channel info still exists with the wrong channel ID. Perhaps a delete functionality would be a good feature to add to the channel manager in the future?

Oh, and Zap2it IDs are >= 10000. Anything less than that is using EPG data from the stream. And if a channel's description has text different from the station name, it wasn't a manually added channel. - Andy

Thanks for the response.
I waited well over 24 hours for the EPG update plus I took a look at the info screen and a EPG update had occurred since reset the logical channel - channel remained. So if it says the channel ID is 11, it is clearly using the broadcast info to fill the EPG. Still would love a delete capability for the channel manager - probably a simple thing to add. ________ Chrysler Sebring (Sedan) History Last edited by bmac.to; 03-21-2011 at 05:24 AM. |

How, exactly, did you reset the logical number?

The only way I think it is possible with the new channel manager is by selecting the logical channel and hitting the delete key (it actually tells you how to do it on the screen). Is there another way?

I removed my last post asking for your properties file -- I just found out that channels that are still referenced by anything in the database won't get removed. You probably have old recordings or past airings in the database that reference the channel in question.
But, when adding a channel on the Add Channel menu and a match is found, you can change the station name and/or ID; you don't have to accept the match that it finds. It tries to match what you enter to existing channels so that you don't create duplicates accidentally, but you can override it. - Andy
