Running the R5000 app and STV Server on different computers

Anyone know if it is possible to run NextCom's R5000 app on one computer and stream the output to STV running on another computer? I asked NextCom, but they didn't know if STV could be used this way. Basically, I'd like to run the R5000 software on a small Windows computer connected to a modified 4DTV receiver and stream the output to STV running on a Mac over the LAN. I'd also need to control the R5000 channel selection, etc. from STV. Basically I'd like to set it up so that the 4DTV / R5000 / Windows PC combination appears as a Video Source, the same way the HDHomeRuns do.

Yes, it is possible... when setting up the R5000 encoder in the sage.properties, you simply substitute your R5000 host's IP instead of 127.0.0.1 on the encoding_host line. Also, make sure there's no firewall issues between the SageTV server and the Network Encoder.

R5000 mod on a PC, STV on a Mac... need help.

I've been trying to follow NextCom's instructions for setting up a computer to work with the R5000 mod. The point out that the computer running the R5000 software can be different that the one running STV. In my case, the R5000 software runs on a PC and STV is running on a Mac. Some of NextCom's instruction for setting up STV don't match what I see. For example they mention edits to the sage.properties file. In there example it shows multiple entires like:

mmc/encoders/12346/...
and
mmc/encoders/12347/...

The sage.properties file on the Mac doesn't have any such entries. So where do I put the edits (shown in red in their instructions)? In addition they recommend changing:

vidoeframe/fast_file_switching=false to vidoeframe/fast_file_switching=true

the closest thing in the Mac is:

vidoeframe/safe_fast_file_switching=false

Same thing?

You have no mmc/encoders lines in your sage.properties, because you have no encoders ON your mac. Those lines are created by sage when it detects video capture devices on the system. What you are doing is adding your own lines to the file, to tell it about the device (in this case, on a different system). Simply make sure sagetv is completely shut down, copy the lines from the nextcom page, and insert them into the sage.properties file. (doesn't really matter where you put them, though sage will alphabetize the file when you run it). The fast_file switching line is also something that you can simply add, though may not really be necessary on newer versions of sage.

Thanks for the information. I loaded the R5000 software on an old laptop PC and have a STV license for the Mac. Unfortunately I wasn't able to test it. A license key is required to unlock the R5000 software. Their website says once you install the mod, contact them for the key. Since they installed the mod you'd assume they would have supplied the key automatically... no such luck. I've Emailed them and am waiting for a response. I was really hoping to get this working today, but apparently that's not going to happen.
