"Serious Windows Error" upgrading to 6.5.16

I just held my breath and upgraded from 6.5.9 to 6.5.16 on my XP Pro-based SageTV computer. I backed up, checkpointed, and rebooted first just to be sure I had a fresh slate and a way to go back. The upgrade/install went smoothly. When it rebooted Windows, I got two "Serious Windows Error" messages from XP. The Service wouldn't start (something like 'the service didn't start in time'). I rebooted again and everything seems to be working properly.

So, why did I get two Serious Windows Errors?

Does the System section of the Windows Event Log give you any bugcheck codes and/or file names associated with either "serious system error"? If this is a bugcheck (or Windows Stop Error), it's probably a device driver that didn't properly terminate when Windows told it to shut down.

Did the SageTV installer tell you to reboot when it was done upgrading your installation? If so, then you probably had some program or service running that was holding some of the SageTV files open and preventing them from being upgraded. These files would then be upgraded after the reboot, which might have caused the service to fail on the first reboot after the upgrade. I'm not sure if this is the case though...I always shut down the SageTV service and everything else SageTV related before upgrading, so the installer doesn't tell me to reboot after the upgrade.
