ERROR (-9): All encoders are in use by clients viewing "Live" TV".

This problem didn't get any attention but it is a serious problem that I have encountered myself. It is a big issue because if someone wants to watch Live TV on the HTPC, they can't!

http://forums.freytechnologies.com/f...2430#post82430

"If I have a SageClient problem or stop/start it manually, the restart works fine, but I eventually run out of the ability to 'watch' live tv because it complains that "ERROR (-9): All encoders are in use by clients viewing "Live" TV".

I have a server that doesn't 'watch' live TV, and a single client.

There doesn't seem to be any way to disconnect a client from the server. This would be really useful, especially in the case that streams get 'stuck' as described above."

So essentially the problem is that the client doesn't disconnect properly and no one can watch Live TV on the HTPC (they get this error message -9).

lol.. it turns out that there was a connected client, so I change my request:

if someone wants to watch LiveTV on the HTPC but there are no encoders available, the user should have the option of kicking off one of the clients (and the HTPC user gets to choose using a menu displaying which shows/channels everyone is watching)

I can see it now. The new house game. See how many other clients you can disconnect by setting recordings and watching/kicking other clients off. BANG you're gone...

Why should one Client be able to knock off another Client? Seems you would need some kind of "pecking" order on who can knock off who. Otherwise you want to watch timeshift so kill someone's session, they retalitate by restarting their session and knocking you off etc. So kill other Client sessions based on what? Add the necessity for user logon into Sage Client everytime every session with Admin assignable rights? I for one don't want that added.

Or add more tuners... yeah that's it. Have enough tuners to do what you want to be done. For me right now that means 4 PVR in Server and 1 PVR in main HTPC Client so it's always available to main Client for timeshifting. (HTPC Client not left on 24/7 so Server only sees it when HTPC Client turned on. Scheduling and conflict resolution normally based on 4 tuners in Server)

You could run the webserver on every client: you can stop playback through the web interface.
You could also install UltraVNC and remote control the clients
You could probably do something with Girder sending and event over the network too....
