All sub-channels show the same program contrary to guide data

KCET guide data shows different programs on the sub-channels, but when I tune them, they all show the same program with the same 16:9, 720p parameters in the detailed info.

I did not think they could broadcast 4 720p programs OTA.

Something is strange here. Anyone know why I can't tune the sub-channels?

Never had this problem with BeyondTV.

I think more info is needed: what tuner are you talking about and how are you trying to tune the subchannels?

Are you trying to choose a show from the Program Guide in SageTV and it is recording the wrong channel?

Have you scanned for channels with each digital tuner in SageTV (as is needed), or did you scan just one tuner and then re-used its lineup for another digital tuner w/o scanning with the other tuner?

I just checked KNSD (San Diego) and it does the same thing on a different tuner. All sub-channels show the main (-1) channel program.

The LA lineup is on the HDTVFusion Gold tuner while the San Diego lineup is on the Hauppauge 1600 digital tuner.

I don't recall scanning for channels in STV. I may have just assigned a lineup based on geography and which antenna is connected.

Why? Does STV need to scan to tune sub-channels? BTV did not need this.

OK, I scanned San Diego channels and at least one tuner now tunes the sub-channels.

Why is this necessary? BTV did not need to scan.

It seems scanning channels enables the sub-channels to tune, but then the guide shows "No Data."

There's no way to tune sub-channels and get guide data?

It depends on whether SageTV has access to the EPG data from Zap2it and whether you've mapped the channels to the correct stations. If they are OTA-only stations (not on the lineup of any cable or satellite provider), then SageTV does not get EPG data from Zap2it.

Make sure you have remapped the correct station to the channel so you can get EPG data if it is available. There is a blurb about this on p. 164 of the v6.5 PDF manual, and the latest v6.5 beta has better remapping menus which show the station ID: >= 10000 is a Zap2it ID.

The EPG lineup shows data for OTA channels with . like 4.1.

When I scan the OTA channels show "no data" for 4-1, 4-2, etc.

OK, I chose to eliminate remapped channels in the source setup and now almost all channels have guide data and I can tune the sub-channels.

This seems really arcane and in need of review and fixing.

I should not have to scan in order to tune sub-channels.

Then how would you propose that the application know that those subchannels even existed and could tune to them?

Uh... the same way the app knows about the main channel; from the EPG provided programming info. I did not need to scan to get the main channel tuned and attendant EPG data.

That may be true but you're only going to be able to receive the channels your antenna receives. And the only way your app (SageTV or any TV with a ATSC tuner) will know that is with a channel scan. I guess if everyone lived where they received every channel at full strength then everyone would only need the guide data. But that isn't true now.

BTV could receive the sub-channels w/o scanning based (probably) on the EPG data.

You think I might be able to receive the main channel and NOT the sub-channels? I did not consider that was possible.

Is it that KNBC station that likes to show beach volleyball all the time? At least it did when I went through something similar with my HDHR. Every single channel had the same station. It happens to me every time I update my HDHR software too. Channel scan fixes it, but I always have to remap my stations to the right channel number.

No big deal though.

It would not be a big deal if the EPG showed data for the scanned channels.

But the question still stands: why is it necessary to scan at all when the EPG has the channel info?

And why can't Sage figure out that the scanned channels are the same as the EPG lineup channels?
