No sound

I have a Hauppauge 1600, with Sage tv 6.5.9 running XP sp3. When I try to record any channel, there is no audio when I try to play it back. I tried VLC, WMP no sound. The audio on live tv works fine.

I tried all the audio settings, with no luck. If I try to play yhe recording with Sage, the audio works.

I have the same problem with many (but not all) digital streams. Sage plays them fine, MediaPlayer and VLC give no audio. DivX player plays them ok. I have found that if I convert them to DVD quality, VLC can play them ok. Doing that conversion also gives me a file of 1/4 the original size, and still looks quite good. In fact, since I usually play back on my 3-year-old PC via Placeshifter, rather than directly through the server, the video on the smaller files looks better because the larger files slightly overwhelm the playback capability on my computer - either slow-to-respond to commands when played back via Placeshifter, or video artifacts if played via other software.
