recorded MPG has major problem in other players

I record a show via my HDHR. Plays back fine within SageTV.

I try to play the mpg that was recorded by SageTV with another player on the same server that the file was recorded:

1. Windows Media Player - will barely play video, very slow and jerky. no audio at all

2. VLC - will play video, will some jerks at the start. no audio at all

If I try to playback the video using the same players from a different desktop I get the same results. Seems like the problem is with the encoding of the recorded file itself.

Anyone know what could be the cause?

Attaching graph of example file...

please help.

Anybody?

I dont see any parameters in SageTV that control the .mpg being recorded. The parameters toggle playback only, no?

If I put the same .mpg that wont play in WMP or VLC into GraphStudio and press play I hear the audio just fine...

Why can't I hear it in WMP or VLC?

I've noticed that the times the .mpg will not play in VLC the codec details are sometimes:

Steam 0
Codec: mpgv
Language:
Type: Video

OR

Steam 0
Codec: a52
Language:
Type: Video

OR

No details at all

Whyis this happening?

I used a transcoder to convert one of the streams that wont play audio from .mpg to an HD-MPEG2 (.mpeg) video.

The video/audio play fine in the .mpeg file.

Something is up with the .mpg... is it a program stream? Are the players having trouble with a program stream?

I used a transcoder to convert one of the streams that wont play audio from .mpg to an HD-MPEG2 TS (.ts) video.

The video/audio play fine in the .ts file in both WMP and VLC - just like the .mpeg.

The .mpg seems to have some issue.
