HVR-2250 driver fix for recording 2 analog channels at the same time

Here is a new driver from Hauppauge that can be tested to fix the stuttering problem encountered when recording two analog channels at the same time:

090331_22xx_7.6.1.27090.PreRelease.zip

Edit: Also check the Hauppauge support page's Beta tab for newer drivers, mentioned later in this topic.

WOOHOOO!!!!!! Thanks for trying it out! I'm installing tonight.

Are there any other advantages of running the updated rivers over the previous official drivers?

The biggest one for me since I also use QAM is "Extend Digital Cable (QAM) tuning range up to channel 158 (max had been 125)". Here are the rest of the release notes:

Quote:
Driver Release 7.6.1.27090 (3/31/09)
* Fixed issue which caused problems for SageTV and simultaneous recordings.

Driver Release 7.6.1.27086 (3/27/09)
* Fixed issue which under some circumstances could allow an Analog Tune to fail with "blue screen video".

Driver Release 7.6.1.27076 (3/17/09)
* QAM HRC fixed.
* Turn off Blaster LEDs on Driver Load.
* CIR Receive Buffer sizes increased.
* CIR Blasting improvement.
* CIR Handshake disabled by default. Won't interfere with pre-existing CIR implementations on Vista.
* Disable support for old "C1" prototype boards. Driver will load. No tuner support.
* Fix both Analog and Digital "First Tune" Issues.
* Fix bad interaction between [digital] tuners. Sometimes digital tuner would receive errors on tune from other.
* Initial Support for Crossbar Flexibility.
* Extend Digital Cable (QAM) tuning range up to channel 158 (max had been 125).
NOTE that this does not mean that every channel will be received well as that range can be questionable by broadcaster and tuner alike.
* Fix "Analog Blue Video on Digital Tune" issue. Sometimes analog video would go blue if the other tuner were tuned digitally.
* Fix MCE "FirstRun" detection of ATSC.

Driver Release 7.6.1.27023 (1/23/09)
* SECAM AM Audio Fix.
* Appropriate CIRCoInstaller Support in INF for Vista and later.
* ATSC/QAM tuner sensitivity improvements.
* 64Bit OS "greater than 4G" memory issues resolved (black/green screen issues).
* Support for "EnableAutoOffset" reg patch.
This improves situation for Australian users whose signals are re-broadcast on non-centered frequencies
but whose streams report the original (way off) frequency.
* Failure on "First Tune" resolved.
* Support for the hcwWilt_RegisterAdapterObject_ registry patches.
The "Std" version fixes a Microsoft Bluescreen on some 64Bit [Dell and potentially other] machines which bluescreen under some circumstances.
This is NOT a Hauppauge bug and unfortunately we are presently powerless to detect this situation dynamically.
But this registry patch will resolve the issue.
* TDA10048 SNR fixes and efficiency improvements.
* QAM Suppport on Fiji/Win7 by default. Overrideable via reg key.
* Introduce 888x, 88Ax, 898x, and 89Ax models for programming.

Driver Release 7.3.0.26198 (07/16/08)
* hcwECP BitRateMode issues fixed.
* SoftJumper implemented.
* New Wiltshire/Halesite Models supported.
* Fix for IR Priority Receive issue.
* Remove support for obscure formats.
* Works with WinTV and Digital Sources (Improved Digital Transport Buffer negotiation).
* Analog HRC support.

Driver Release 7.2.9.26105 (04/14/08)
* Encoder Property Page cleanup
* Variable Bit rate mode improvements
* picture quality improvement for YPbPr input
* Close Caption decoding improved (stability)
* Arcsoft TotalMedia TV application supported
* FM Frequence range extended: 65MHz to 108MHz (demanded in Russia)
* Performance tuning support enabled
* Improved IR Support.
* Improved multiple board support.
* VBI Data Level corrected, was too high.
* Hibernation performance improvements.
* The limit of the peak bitrate for VBR was set to 9.5MBit in the driver, average bitrate still at 6Mbit
* Sliced VBI has no more effect on stability of RDS
* Fix PowerOn initialization of tuners.
* Fix VideoDecoder GetParameter call so it correctly returns any failures (it was pretty much always return OK even if there were a failure). This is as yet untested.
* VISTA ONLY... Remove extra unnecessary and problematic "QAM" tuner instance.
* Support for QAM_AS_ATSC.
* Support for AltTSFormat (problematic).

Driver Release 7.1.22.26025 (01/25/08)
* Improvements to dynamic standard detection (in particular to address areas of Czech Republic which has mixed BG and DK)
* Signal Monitor supported on 8901 and 8800.
* Access to more than 2 generic devices now possible
* XP64 analog issue resolved.
* MPEG1 Aspect-Ratio correction.
* Improved program stream performance: allow 4x3D features at 6MBit/s VBR, 6.8MBit/s peak. Additional testing/improvements progressing.
* Eliminate duplicate check for default video standard.
* Improved registry support in driver.
* Improved I2C handling for multiple devices.
* Forced Firmware download fixed.
* Firmware Filename can be overriden from registry.
* ProductionTest drivers MUST specify firmware filename.
* If "EraseFlash" flag is set, it is automatically cleared. Can't accidentally Erase more than one board.
* WinTV_GetAllEEStr property is supported.
* FM Audio Level increased 8db.
* Only operates on genuine Hauppauge hardware.
* Better default analog video formats.
* Firmware fixes intermittent halting video on transition from Pause to Play.
* Tuner filter may be inserted in graph while another active graph is running.
* Improved default VideoStandard setting.
* Raw Audio Out pin renamed for easier retail support.
* XP32 WHQL PNPTest Bluescreens fixed.
* Support for Filter Name Enumeration for Digital Filters.

Driver Release 6.1.5.25282 (WHQL Signed) (10/09/07)
* SAP Fixes.
* SAP issues addressed.
* NICAM Audio issues addressed.
* Improved sensitivity for DVB-T tuning.
* Support for 1MB Flash hardware.
* Hibernation for TS-Encoding Use Case improved
* AV async and audio klicks when using 3D-Noise and NTSC -> used to be a problem, now solved
* Color bar flatness of colour bar test picture improved
* No more Encoding artifacts seen at start of encoding
* Update TDA18271/C2 and TDA10048 implementation: DVB-T lock improved (faster).
* Chrominace fitering in 3D-Noise: setting improved.
* More flexibility in registry overrides.
* 3DComb defaults to NOT Active.
* 3DNoise defaults to level 3.
* Resolved MCE crash when changing analog audio properties.
* Additional Surprise-Removal safety.
* Improvment (reduction) in Start-Device time.
* Eliminate Registration as Wave/Mixer device.
* New registry override exposes devices as WDM Audio Capture Filter (NOT enabled by default).

Driver Release 6.0.0.252412 (WHQL Signed) (08/29/07)
* First Official WHQL-Signed Release!
* Eliminating most of the gory details from former PreRelease drivers but here are a few tidbits regarding this release...
* Uses 6.0.0.16 firmware.
* Registry override can force downloading firmware from file.
* 3D Comb or 3D Noise available on both channels (or one of each -- any one 3D feature can be enabled on each channel).
* Can encode dual streams at up to 6Mbit/s TS and 8Mbit/s PS.

Thank you for the info!

I too am using this for QAM, but none of my clear QAM channels fall above 125 so that isn't a help (yet anyway). With that said, I will upgrade tonight, if for no other than the fact I must always have the latest and greatest.....

Question on this driver.

Recently I found myself in a muck with the new beta driver posted by Hauppauge. It could have been this driver. I ran into an issue where Analog recorded great, but digital TV stopped recording and was causing issues. Is this the same beta driver from CD_4.8a.zip or a newer version (hopefully one that doesnt cause issues with Digital recording). I have noticed the stutter with the current non-beta driver and have found that changing to another codec will solve it (yay Nvidia post processor!). That being said, its a pain to change to another codec to watch digital HD channels. Can anyone confirm that this isnt the beta driver which appears to cause issues with digital recording?

One more question - Do you know what "CIR" is ? It mentions a fix but when I checked the Hauppauge website it does not talk about it.

Thanks again

Finally, QAM above 125!

The current beta driver, HVR2250_7.6.1.27091, is the first that allows me to tune QAM 128 channels in my area! Yippee! I hope these turn out to be stable.

I'm able to tune all of them in my area as well....

However, the tuner appears to be sorta slow.... wondering if there is anyway to improve that?

I loaded this driver: Driver Release 7.6.1.27091.PreRelease (4/1/09)

and Windows reported that the driver was corrupt, tried to reload again and same thing.
Went back to my prior version: 090107_22xx_7.5.25.27007.PreRelease

Try running the .90 driver -- I too had trouble loading the 27091 driver but the 27090 is good.
