Fox-25 Pixilates fequently during shows

In the past few weeks I've noticed that fox-25 channel will get pixilated during the record show. I'm using a fusion usb turner for recording this channel.

Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot?

It's not just fox. I get it on both of my USB fusion tuners and on other channels.

Any thoughts on what to look at?

Thanks

Sounds like a reception issue if you are using OTA or a signal stregth issue if you are using QAM....

Not only do you have to be concerned with signal strength, but signal quality. I'm very close to my transmitting towers and have 100% strength. However my SQ seems to be a issue. I'm guessing the ghostings/crosstalk (I'm not totally sure what the technical terms are but you get the picture) I've gone through a few antennas, and my HDHR seems to handle the current situation better than the Happauges I have.

Be mindful of the length of cable you have from tuners to ant... and how many splittlers, barrel plugs, connectors you have on the line. I've beat my head on the wall several time fussing about the pixelation but its down to a manageable level at this point.

Good Luck!

This has been working for 2 years. Just all of a sudden it started with this problem. Let the fun start.

Any troubleshooting tips would be great.

Thanks.

It could also be a dying capture device, but I am leaning more towards the signal is the issue. It's been awhile since I used my fusion card, but does it have a signal strength / signal quality program that came with it? This is usually your best bet (if it does) if it is the signal that is causing your problems. The one major issue with digital tv is that it is such an all or nothing signal. Good luck to you.

It happens on both of the USB fusion tuners, so probably it's a singal issue...bummer.

Thanks

As the seasons change my signal quality gets worse. I have a multi-path problem that is just better in the Fall and Winter. Usually need to move the Antenna around a bit to find the new sweet spot. (Of course I am surrounded by trees.)

That said I have found that it can also be the codec. I would try changing the MPEG-2 codec just to make sure it is not the playback. Also play the file back in MPC. (Free download)

Media Player Classic is a project based on the old media player (6.4) that shipped with windows XP. You can still find the original in the Windows Media Player directory (usually C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\mplayer2.exe). See the dl link below for the project that is still being developed.
