Recording Quality with Hauppauge PVR-1800

I am unable to change the Recording Quality on my 1800. I have the latest Hauppauge drivers and the Video Source device is "Not set". What is the source of my problem?

Do you mean the HVR-1800? The HVR1800 has an analog tuner, which should let you choose a recording quality, and a digital tuner. You can't change the recording quality for digital/HD signals because the card basically just dumps the digital feed straight to disk. For analog signals the card is actually converting the analog signals to a digital format and compressing them. You should be able to set the compression level (i.e., the recording quality).

I'm not sure what you mean by the "Video Source device is 'Not set'". Where do you see that?

In detailed setup go to Multimedia and arrow over and down to Recording Quality. Press OK on your remote (or enter I guess on keyboard) and you'll get a menu where you can set the Default Quality (quality that tuners will use if they are not set individually) or arrow down through your installed tuners and set each one individually for MPEG2 recording quality.

reggie14 is right about digital signals received by the 1800. They are what they are. But the analog signal and s-video input recording quality can be set for the 1800.
