Tuning on Hauppage WinTV Nova 500
Hi, call me stupid, but I've spent all day fighting horrible Hauppauge hardware and software to no avail.
I thought I'd give SageTV a go since it's Hauppauge's WinTV 7 (v1.1) which seems to flatly refuse to hook up to their own hardware, anyway... I downloaded SageTV 21 day trial and let it tune to my card, I'm in the south of england so chose Crystal Palace (Do I really need to choose a transmitter, can't it just sense everything I'm feeding it on the UHF?) and I'm only getting about 10 or 20 channels tuned (of the 40 or 50 or so it should be picking up). SageTV seems to be tuning by number, rather than by frequency. I got a bad feeling as well the Crystal Palace only broadcasts a few channels. guugh, I'm tired and I'm hacked off - why dont things just work? Can someone please tell me how to press a 'tune and get everything' button on SageTV - or am I missing the point? Thanks |

Hi, if you haven't already done so can I suggest you download and run the UK version of scanchannelsbda - a free utility which you can use to see everything your tuner can receive, and how strong the signals are. It is described in the Hauppauge forums here
The fact that you can tune some channels but not others suggests it isn't a problem with Sage (or WinTV) and doing this will eliminate both of them from your search for the problem. I suspect you just don't have a strong enough signal to tune some of the lower-power muxes. I think the answer to the question "why does it need to know which transmitter I'm receiving from?" is "It doesn't". I suspect all it really needs to know is which country you are in, so that it can scan the correct frequency ranges, offsets, bandwidth settings etc. That is all scanchannelsbda needs to know anyway. I hope this helps. |

Hi, Thought I'd make you aware of the fact that if a channel isn't broadcasting when you do a scan Sage won't pick it up. So for example if you do a scan @ 10.00am you won't find BBC3 or BBC4 as these don't start broadcasting until around 7.00pm. So what you have to do is scan once in AM and once in PM to get all available channels, then you need to edit your .frq file to combine both scans.
Their is loads of information about how to do this in the forums. It may sound hard but its not so its worth sticking with. You may also find your transmitter on the wiki and use that data for your area.

You could go to
http://sagetv.wikia.com/wiki/Crystal_Palace The Crystal Palace frequencies should be there. You can copy and past them into your frq files named Nova-DT DVB-T Capture (Dev1 Path0) -0-DVB-T.frq and Nova-DT DVB-T Capture (Dev1 Path1) -0-DVB-T.frq in the sagetv folder |

List not complete
Hi, so although the list given in the above works, the channels are limited (compared to what my tele just pulls out of nowhere).
So I've pretty much been playing around all day building some kind of mad config file off the back of ScanChannelsDB and got to here: ch:1 0 0 4172 578000 8 0 1 #BBC1 ch:2 0 0 4236 578000 8 0 1 #BBC Two ch:3 0 0 8272 538000 8 0 1 #ITV1 ch:4 0 0 8384 538000 8 0 1 #Channel 4 ch:5 0 0 12866 689833 8 0 1 #FIVE ch:6 0 0 8325 538000 8 0 1 #ITV2 ch:10 0 0 8294 538000 8 0 1 #ITV3 ch:11 0 0 22208 738000 8 0 1 #SKY THREE ch:12 0 0 25792 713833 8 0 1 #Yesterday ch:13 0 0 8452 538000 8 0 1 #Channel 4+1 ch:14 0 0 8442 538000 8 0 1 #More 4 ch:15 0 0 27136 713833 8 0 1 #Film4 ch:16 0 0 13120 689833 8 0 1 #QVC ch:18 0 0 25664 713833 8 0 1 #4Music ch:19 0 0 22272 738000 8 0 1 #Dave ch:21 0 0 25728 713833 8 0 1 #TMF ch:22 0 0 25920 713833 8 0 1 #Ideal World ch:23 0 0 14272 689833 8 0 1 #bid tv ch:24 0 0 8353 538000 8 0 1 #ITV4 ch:25 0 0 27392 713833 8 0 1 #Dave ja vu ch:26 0 0 14976 689833 8 0 1 #UKTV STYLE ch:27 0 0 27072 713833 8 0 1 #ITV2 +1 ch:28 0 0 8448 538000 8 0 1 #E4 ch:29 0 0 22336 738000 8 0 1 #E4+1 ch:34 0 0 16096 689833 8 0 1 #SETANTA SPORTS ch:35 0 0 12992 689833 8 0 1 #FIVE USA ch:36 0 0 12928 689833 8 0 1 #FIVER ch:45 0 0 19456 681833 8 0 1 #301 ch:46 0 0 19520 681833 8 0 1 #302 ch:49 0 0 14432 689833 8 0 1 #NETPLAY TV ch:83 0 0 22144 738000 8 0 1 #Sky Spts News ch:82 0 0 22080 738000 8 0 1 #Sky News ch:70 0 0 4671 578000 8 0 1 #CBBC Channel 1 ch:71 0 0 16960 681833 8 0 1 #CBeebies ch:72 0 0 16032 689833 8 0 1 #CITV ch:80 0 0 4415 578000 8 0 1 #BBC News ch:81 0 0 17024 681833 8 0 1 #BBC Parliament ch:101 0 0 14784 689833 8 0 1 #Ttext Holidays ch:102 0 0 8633 538000 8 0 1 #Rabbit ch:188 0 0 18496 681833 8 0 1 #BBC Radio 1 ch:189 0 0 18176 681833 8 0 1 #BBC 1Xtra ch:190 0 0 18560 681833 8 0 1 #BBC Radio 2 ch:191 0 0 18624 681833 8 0 1 #BBC Radio 3 ch:192 0 0 18688 681833 8 0 1 #BBC Radio 4 ch:193 0 0 17920 681833 8 0 1 #BBC R5L ch:194 0 0 17984 681833 8 0 1 #BBC R5SX ch:195 0 0 18048 681833 8 0 1 #BBC 6 Music ch:196 0 0 18112 681833 8 0 1 #BBC Radio 7 ch:197 0 0 18240 681833 8 0 1 #BBC Asian Net ch:198 0 0 18304 681833 8 0 1 #BBC World Service ch:199 0 0 26560 713833 8 0 1 #The Hits Radio ch:200 0 0 14592 689833 8 0 1 #Smash Hits! ch:201 0 0 26176 713833 8 0 1 #Kiss ch:202 0 0 26240 713833 8 0 1 #heat ch:203 0 0 26624 713833 8 0 1 #Magic ch:204 0 0 26688 713833 8 0 1 #Q ch:206 0 0 26368 713833 8 0 1 #SMOOTH RADIO ch:210 0 0 26304 713833 8 0 1 #Kerrang! ch:211 0 0 22592 738000 8 0 1 #talkSPORT ch:213 0 0 22976 738000 8 0 1 #Premier Radio ch:215 0 0 23104 738000 8 0 1 #Absolute Radio Which is all fine, but as it turns out it's an old file format, SageTV hates it. So I can spend another hour turning it into the right format, I think I've got everything excepting an onid for the ch:index onid:networkid tsid:transport_id sid:sevrice_id frq:frequency band:band_width ctrl:ctrlbits So 2 questions.... 1). Whats an onid and how do I find it out 2). Does everyone that buys SageTV struggle like this? maan its hard, I mean has anyone in the UK ever managed to get it working at all ever? ? |
