Any progress on sync of HD PVR w/ FIOS?
I have been nothing but frustrated with my HD PVR since getting it a few weeks ago. No matter what I try, I have in-and-out sync issues throughout my recordings when playing on my HD200's. My server is headless, so I have not tried playing any HD PVR recordings on it to test the sync issue.
I have tried the following on my QIP-6200-2 box, but always get the sync issue several minutes into my recordings (I'm running the most current driver from the Hauppauge site): 720P mode 1080i mode Component w/ SPDIF Component w/ analog audio (left SPDIF plugged) Has anyone had success with their HD PVR setup and this FIOS hardware? I thought I read a thread stating that Hauppauge claims this is a FIOS hardware issue. I find that to be complete rubbish as I once had this exact same STB hooked up to my bedroom LCD HDTV via component and analog audio and NEVER experienced a sync issue. If this is a known issue by Hauppauge, they should have the decency to state it on their product page?

You should try running with analog audio and the SPDIF unplugged.

I have no sync issues with FiOS and the HD-PVR. I have the QIP7100 and HD-PVR rev. C2 using analog audio. I have recordings in 480i and 1080i. If you are within refund/exchange limits for the HD-PVR, then send it back and insist they refund it or send you a replacement. If the replacement unit is still not working, then there is something wrong with your setup. But try what TallMomof2 said first.

The answer depends on what you're trying to achieve.
High-definition optical audio does not work with the Verizon model 6xxx series set-top boxes and any HD PVR rev. Analog, 2 channel audio does work with the Verizon model 6xxx series set-top boxes and most of the HD PVR rev's. However, there has been reported problems with analog audio and the C3 rev and if this is the box you have I'd definitely RMA it. Hauppauge is aware of the high-definition audio problem and is supposed to be working on a solution but I'm not sure how true this is since they have not totally stopped responding to my emails on this issue. The best solution at the moment, if you can achieve it, is to get Verizon to exchange your 6xxx series set-top box for the newer 7xxx series. I and others have gone this route and can confirm that the high-definition audio problem between Verizon and the HD PVR only exists with the 6xxx series STB's not the 7xxx series. |

Okay. Thanks for the suggestions. I unplugged the digital audio cable from the HD PVR and my QIP-6200 last night. I just kicked off a recording a minute ago. I will have to check it out tonight or tomorrow AM and report back my findings.
My HD DVR is Rev D2, but I haven't been able to find many people talking about this specific Rev here on the forums. If removing the SPDIF cable fails to resolve my issues, I'll RMA my unit with Hauppauge. Maybe at the same time I'll lean on FIOS to get me a QIP-7xxx box. I had just dropped down for $50/month box lease fees, to $10/month by removing all my boxes from my account except the one attached to my HTPC server. Maybe I can use that as leverage to get a QIP-7xxx.

I have been running a HD-PVR Rev C2 since July 2008 on a Fios 6200 STB. The Optical out never sounded right and so I always used analog. Never had a audio sync problem with analog sound. I purchased a second one so I could RMA my rev C2 to get the Optical sound working. My new one is a rev D2. The optical sound now sounds correct but it has major sync issues. Have not tried the analog on the rev D2.
What do you tell verizon to get them to switch your STB for the 7100 series? Does the firewire channel changing work on the 7100 series STB? Thanks, |

I guess my next step is to call Hauppauge and RMA my D2 unit for a different one. This is frustrating. I really cannot fathom how different these HD PVR's are different from one another. What in the work is Hauppauge changing in these units so frequently that they have so many revisions with so many different issues?

Has anyone successfully convince Verizon to change thier QIP6200 STB to QIP7100 STB? If so what was used to convince them? And did it sovle the audio sync problems with the HD-PVR?
Thanks for any help and feed back. |

The people at Hauppauge seem to think it is easy to get Verizon to switch a 6xxx STB for the corresponding 7xxx model. Maybe in some parts of the country but certainly not were I live. I went through 4 model 6xxx STB's, which all had a problem with intermittently losing signal requiring a hard reset, before Verizon finally gave in and decided to replace my 6xxx box with a 7xxx box. If it wasn't for this other problem I'm sure I would have never gotten Verizon to replace my box. I can confirm that the 7xxx box solved both the problem with intermittent signal loss and the audio sync problem with the HD-PVR.

I know verizon is rolling out a software update. I wonder if it will fix it.

Maybe you could use the excuse that you want to try out their PVR solution, and switch (temporarily) to their HD DVR QIP 7216. I have one free for a year, so I am using it for Sage with TOSlink for audio. It works just the same as the 7100.
After some period of time, exchange it for a 7100. |

You don't have a local FIOS office? I haven't been to ours, but know for sure that they have 1 office in Buffalo. I would imagine that you could go there and see what they have in inventory.

I contacted Huappauge about the audio out of sync using a HD-PVR v D2. They want me to send it back for a replacement. Does anyone know if the HD-PVR can be changed to fix the audio sync with a verizon stb?
thanks, |
