Setting up first Client
I have been using Sage since v.2 (single machine). I'm finally needing a second PC to be able to "tap in" the resources of the original Sage machine.
Looks like my options are the Placeshifter and Client for $30 ea. The secondary machine, used only sometimes, is hard-wired to the network. I like to run the SageMC STV but not necessary. There will be no capture cards in the second PC. Which route do I go? Placeshifter or Client? Looks like the only difference is that the Placeshifter allows external to my network viewing/recording of shows. Is this right? Thanks. AWS

If the second machine is only going to be used on the LAN, get the client...

What is the difference between SageTV Client and Placeshifter? You will probably want to consider the SageTV Client, unless you also want/need the Placeshifter license for remote us. - Andy

Buying and running the client is the best spent $30 I've made in a long time. This small step bumped the WAF +3 points. It's great having the exact same interface/setup on the primary Sage machine in the living room and then also on the secondary system. Wish I would have done this a long time ago.
For the longest time we were just running VLC on the secondary machine whenever the kids wanted to watch a pre-recorded cartoon or DVD. The wife/kids never really knew how to get a show off of the Sage machine by browsing for it via the network but now with the client it's transparant, seamless and easy. [plug plug] AWS

Another nice thing about the client is that you can put in a DVD disk on the client computer, if you don't rip them to a hard drive, and play through Sage too.
