Black borders as part of the recording

Hope someone can help with this. I have the Aspect Ratio Mode set to source but am still getting a black border around recordings. When playing back recordings through vlc or sagetv I sometimes see two sets of black boarders, one is part of the actual recording the other is due to viewing screen type.

I am using v6.5.9 - 2 x pvr500's and 1 x hvr4000, (mainly happens on the pvr500) Is there any way I can get rid of them on the recordings without having to manually edit them?

There is nothing you can really do for the blackbars that are part of the recording (aside from manually editing them out). I have manually tweaked my 4 aspect ratios in Sage (4:3, 16:9, Fill, Source) so that I can adjust my playback aspect ratio dependent on the type of recording (ie where the black bars are) so my screen is (almost) always filled.
