(Newbie) Question re: simple standalone uses

Hi there

I have a Readynas Duo and I am looking for something to stream photos and wma files (not fussed about video at this stage).

Previously I purchased (and subsequently returned) a Linksys DMA2100 which only worked if the extender and laptop where both hard wired to my router, which was a pain if I also wanted to use the laptop wirelessly in another part of the house.

The plus point of the Linksys was a great interface which was almost identical to Windows Media Centre.

Can the Sage unit do the following:

1 - Display album art (that has been obtained via Windows Media Player)
2 - Play music whilst viewing a slideshow.

Can anyone comment on the actual speed/ease of navigating through album folders, both images and mpa files? Also, the Linksys allowed you to quickly jump through the alphabet which was handy when you were looking for a certain artist or album name - can the Sage do this?

In a nutshell I guess I am looking for a standalone unit (streamer) which gives all the functionality of a media extender!!!

Any advice would be helpful

Kev

First off. If you have a ReadyNAS and wish to play music you will need the latest beta firmware. The HD-200 will not mount ReadyNAS hosted shares without it.

http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39198

1) How are the cover art images stored? On the share, or in meta-data? I know if the album art is displayed if there is a 'folder.jpg' present in the folder.
2) Don't know. As I haven't tried. Because my shares wont mount. And I wont be able to try the new beta firmware until Friday.

FWIW, that only applies to share access mode, if you're ReadyNAS is configured for user security (like mine) it's been fine since at least the 12/30 firmware.
