Error (-4,0x80040217) with SageTV 6.5.9
First thing is first... I am new to SageTV just starting to get it going and dealing with one problem / feature at a time (when time permits)
I tried a few things so far only with SageTV and yesterday I updated to 6.5.9 and tried to now add and use a Video Source. I have the HD-PVR installed and working with the ArcSoft software can see video no problem etc. However trying to preview after selecting the input type results in the error: There was a Playback Error in playback. Details: sage.PlaybackException: ERROR (-4,0x80040217): There was a problem rendering the video portion of the content for playback Now I tried different playback setup such as basic / standard / advanced etc. I have verified I have the latest drivers for almost all things and even run dxdiag to check for anything wierd. Today I will turn on sage tv's debug and see if there is more details to this error as I don't think I am the only one getting it and we are all using different hardward as well. |

Don't worry about previewing. Just skip thru that step and finish setting up the source. Once you are done restart Sage or the server and verify that it is working. If you still get that error make sure in Setailed setup-Video/Audio you pick VMR9 (or EVR if it is a choice)and see if that helps. ALso specically pick a video decoder and do not leave it at the default setting. Same goes for audio. Specifically pick one.

But the main server can't play any video at all. Not that I actually intend to watch on that machine it is purely a server but it would really make configurations etc easier to see whats going on. So I still have that error for local playback. Darryl |

On your server-do you have all the service packs installed? The latest DirectX installed? Your HD-PVR requires the installation of a h.264 decoder like the Arcsoft software Total Media Extreme that comes with it.

Hi Gerry and thanks for your reply
service packs installed? yes latest DirectX installed? yes dx9c Arcsoft software Total Media Extreme Yes I can play from each unit no problem using the Acrsoft software... just not within SageTV. But it records fine just refuses to play locally. Now I am only assuming that since I can play via the Arcsoft that the codec is installed properly and I did not try to verify it is in any otherway. I did not see the Arc soft as a codec to pick when within SageTV as well. Darryl |

In Detailed Setup-Video/Audio Arcsoft should also be a choice. If it is not then something is wrong. To use it to play h.264 you need to put in in this line of the .properties file.

I have reinstalled the arcsoft software 3 times .. the codec is installed but not registered with windows as a available codec. I have the newest version of the software and that is what came on the cd. I checked the arcsoft program directory and I do see the codec directory and it contains everything. And the Arcsoft software itself can play video from the devices. But I have no Arcsoft anything within SageTV. And this is a fresh install of windows xp pro (sp3) was already part of the install. Then you have some other issues. After installing Arcsoft software on the PC that will run the SageTV client software you should be able to go into the Detailed Setup-Video/Audio or DVD settings and be able to see and choose Arcsoft Video Decoder. (This also does NOT apply to your HD200. They do all the decoding in hardware)

I solved the problem after reading some other posts in other sites and found the solution.
Seems like the newest version of Total Media does not register the codec for the rest of the system to use. You have to manually do it. Code:
Goto C:\Program Files\Arcsoft\TotalMedia Extreme\Codec Double-click an .ax file. You'll get the message that Windows can't open the file. Choose "Select the program from a list" and click Ok. Click Browse Go to C:\windows\system32 and double-click on REGSVR32.EXE Check the box that says "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" Click Ok That should register the .ax file, and you should see a dialog to that effect. Now to make the rest easy, sort the list by type (right-click, Arrange Icons By -> Type) and select all the .ax files. Then press ENTER You'll get a warning about opening a bunch of files at once. Click Yes and allow it to open them. After windows stop popping up, XP should have grouped all the windows in to a single task bar button. Just right-click the button and click "Close Group". http://forums.snapstream.com/vb/show...70&postcount=6 And it resolved my problem with local playback. I could not use EVR it was gittery but I went the next one down from that (VMR9 i think it was) and it was pretty smooth. Darryl |
