Better WAF for DVD Library

Is there a better view for ripped DVDs than the standard view? Perhaps an import that shows a larger cover with a better title than just the folder name? I have tried SageMC, but it still is the cover name, and you have to select DVD everytime you go into the MyVideos screen.

Can you explain a little better for me? Give a few examples of your movies and then tell us how you have them saved on the hard drive. For example, you have "Star Wars" and it saved as a ripped DVD with vob files or a single mpg file or etc etc. And the Star Wars files are in Media/Movies/Star Wars/Video_TS/
That kind of info. Thanks,

Movies are stored on a Windows Home Server. In many cases, I have both a RIP to .mpg as well as the VOBs. Structure is \\whs-01\movies\VeggieTales Holiday Double Feature with VIDEO_TS under it. In the main folder is a folder.jpg with a 354 x 522 cover in it. The VOBs are in the VIDEO_TS folder. Ideally, I would like the title to show up a little more intuitively. For examply, the disk copier that I use, MyMovies for WHS often puts an underscore in the title, or uses a non intuitive name. I also have an xml file in the directory from MyMovies that has movie information in it.

There is no support for My Movies in SageTV unfortunately.

So your issue is with the naming of the movie in SageTV (ie "Star Wars" shows as "Star_Wars") or something like that?

As far as I know, SageTV uses the file name to identify what the movie is.

For SageMC I did a little how-to on movie organization, metadata gathering and covers that might help show you what is possible. If I'm understanding you correctly, I think the best (possibly only) way to fix the naming problem is to fix the movie folder names.

I also found the default view of DVD covers a little small. To get a larger cover view in the standard UI, you can customize the view to control how many rows and columns are shown. Right click while viewing the DVD covers, and change "Number of Title Rows" and "Number of Title Columns". I chose 2 rows by 3 columns (on a widescreen display), and liked the size of the displayed covers much better.

As for the names shown, you can just change the folder name that your rip is stored in, and then Refresh Imported Media to see the changed names.

Hope this helps...

SageMC + DVD Profiler will allow you to name the folder the videos are stored in whatever you want and display a different title in the UI.

In DVD Profiler each DVD has the following properties:
Movie Title
Sort Title
Original Title
Movie Title is what SageMC displays in the UI.
Sort Title is not used.

To find the movies, Sage matches the folder name against the "Movie Title" and the "Original Title". So if you want to have the displayed title different than the folder name just name the "Original Title" to the folder name and the "Movie Title" to what you want displayed in the UI.

I skimmed the link above by Brent (great tutorial btw) and didn't see the above trick. Sorry if it was already there.

Since I use SageMC I'm not sure if there is the DVD Profiler plugin for the default STV, but it may be worth giving SageMC a try again

Nope it wasn't there because I never totally understood how that worked. Thanks a bunch for pointing that out! I've updated the tutorial with your tip by the way.

You might want to browse this thread if you'd prefer to use DVD Profiler with the default STV instead of SageMC

IMO - The best thing for DVD Profiler support in the default STV is the Stuckless IMDB lookup tool which has support for DVD Profiler Collection.xml files. This tool creates .properties files for SageTV and no import is required.
