Ripped DVDS in the extender play fine until I hit pause

I am trying to migrate the dvds I own to the server so that I can play them with sage. I have the Media Extender. It seems to be finiky about some of the moves. A lot of the moves lock up if I try and skip foward.

Sometimes I can get them to worth with DVD drypter, sometimes with DVDfab sometimes with another program. But there doesnt seem to be one program that works all/most of the time.

Can anyone recommend a method of backing up dvds to PC that makes them so sage doesn't barf if I skip forward.

The fix from a barf seems to be that I have to go back to the movie menu, pick from a movie that skips okay. After that movie starts playing it I can go back to restart the original movie from the beginning. The problem being if we are watching something and dont know if it is a good movie and my wife pauses it halfway into movie. We are dead then as we have to restart.

What version of firmware do you have in the extender? You can check by powering it hard off, then on, then pressing enter before it auto-connects to the server.

IIRC, the recently released firmware had some fixes about this stuff.

I had latest version as of maybe 3 weeks ago. Is this the last production or beta firmware?

I'm on the version in this post, the phrasing is "recommended release" so I don't know if that's production or beta. Works great though, so if you don't have that one, go get it and see if that helps any.

I am on that version too.. dam... I was just watching a move an hour and 12 minutes in and it had a hicup. now I have no way to get back to where I was.

Is is the program that I am using to rip it?

I have tried a few differnt programs with no real consistant luck. some movies work fine but the others die on pause and fastfoward.

I know you said you are using DVDFab HD and having problems with those rips as well as others, but I use DVDFab HD solely and have no problems. I only rip the main movie though so that may have something to do with it.

I have been using every version since 5.0.X was released. Some might even have been ripped with 4.X.X. I think I am currently using 5.1.X right now (whatever their current release is)

Just FYI, I use DVD Decryptor (the last version), in file mode and have never had any problems playing my dvd's back on the HD extender. Just can't play DVD's back on the placeshifter client (which sucks ).

I was setting up my Extender and was having some hang up issues as well. I would be watching the ripped DVD and everything would just freeze.

It appears my problem was with my network connection. There would be a hiccup on the network with the feed and the box would freeze.

I have a wireless router (with a 4 port switch) and an 8 port switch. I had the server connected to the router and the Extender connected to the switch. This setup was giving me the problem. I changed the setup so the server and the extender were on the same switch and have not had a problem since (knock on wood).

DVDfab worked today on the movie that I tried.

In the past I was doing the DVD to DVD but clicked DVD to Mobile and picked generic but then told it rip is VOB so no conversion.

I got the moved to play with skip etc. but what about chapters?

Is there a way to get the chapters to work? My wife wants to load up some exercise DVDS of hers and each workout is a chapter so even though I really dont care for movies for this it would be helpful

This is what works for me. I get chapters and skipping works fine. I store my DVDs this way:

\\MAIN\Videos 3\MainMovie\Batman Begins
or
\\MAIN\Videos 3\FullDisc\Dark City

So each Videos directory (Videos thru Videos 5) contains a MainMovie or FullDisc directory

So for Batman Begins Choose DVD to DVD Main Movie.
The target in this case of Batman Begins is \\MAIN\Videos 3.

For Dark City I choose DVD to DVD Full Disc
The target in this case of Dark City is still \\MAIN\Videos 3.

The rip will add the MainMovie or FullDisc to the path automatically.
