Still cannot play ripped DVDs

Well, I can play the DVD from the local drive on the client now. That is better than last time. However, I still cannot get a ripped DVD .ifo/.vob to play.

I get the following error:
There was a MPEG 2 Video Error in playback. Details:
Failure setting DVD loctaion
ErrCode = 0x80070057

I imported the ripped DVDs from path:
\\htpc\dvds

This path can be seen from both the server and the client. Both the server and the client report the same error.

I am using the Sonic decoder pack and playing a DVD from the local drive in the client works fine. So I know the decoder works.

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks,

Do you have the path defined as a drive letter on the server? Try mapping it as a drive letter on your client.

Actually the files are stored on the client (the client is htpc). Is this a problem?

Not sure. I haven't tried to play ripped DVD's. Have you set the path to a drive letter like D:\DVDs ?

OK, seems like I can play a ripped DVD if I rip the entire DVD. However, if I just rip the main movie file then I cannot play it.

Can anyone else just play the main movie? Zoomplayer plays them all fine.

thanks,

How are you ripping just the main movie? Last one I ripped with DVD Shrink worked just fine on my only SageTV box, stored locally.

I have used DVDShrink and DVDDecrypter. They both support ripping the main movie only.

When you ripped with DVDShrink, id you compress at all, only rip the main movie?

thanks,

OK, I tried it with both DVD Decryptor, and DVD Shrink. Seems DVD shrink can be played by Sage, but not DVD Decrytpor. I also noticed that DVD Shrink puts a lot more files in the video_ts directory while DVD Decryptor places just a txt, vob, and ifo file.

Seems to work with DVD Shrink though, that is good news.

thanks,

I remember trying DVD D a long time ago to rip movie only and it never worked then, I've stayed away from it ever since then. DVD Shrink is the only app I've seen that correctly strips DVDs, aside from DVD D+Ifoedit that is.

When you rip with DVD Decrypter, rip in file mode, not IFO mode and see if that works for you.

I had a hard time finding just the main movie in DVD Decrypter file mode. I'll stick with DVD Shrink since you can also tell it to compress or not compress, kind of nice.

BTW just in case anyone is interested. I stored my ripped DVDs on my client hard drive, shared the folder, and pointed to it via the UNC path from the server. Worked quite well. I do know people have asked about this and it works for me

Thanks for all the help,
