I strongly disagree. In every other context in SageTV, the Stop button means stop playback. In no case does it mean stop recording. It may have the side effect of stopping the recording of live TV if (a) there are no other clients watching that program and (b) the program is not otherwise scheduled for recording via favorite, manual, or IR. But the meaning and the immediate effect of the Stop button is clearly to stop playback. Consistency demands that it keep that same meaning in all cases.

If you want a command (in addition to the existing Watched command) to cancel the recording of a particular favorite airing, fine; that may be worth discussing (although Watched seems adequate to me). But it should definitely not be the Stop command.

I too would like a command to stop a favourite recording while it is in progress. Even an old-fashioned VCR implements this functionality, and it does so without needing a separate button labelled "I've watched this".

The omission of a clear way to do this in Sage is so odd that I am surprised anybody bothers to defend it.

Come on Sage, make it right.
We should be able to hit STOP while viewing the show being recorded and darn it, it stops recording.
and/or there needs to be a menu choice "CANCEL THIS RECORDING"
Not to be rude, or that it couldn't be implemented, but I find it amusing that the solution is to change the program rather than re-educate the user. I'm sure she's an intelligent person, shoudn't be that hard to learn.

True, but your VCR didn't do half the stuff SageTV does. If all you want is a digital VCR the software that came with your tuner card will give you that functionality. The stop button should work exactly like you expect then

I have run into situations where I needed to stop the recording of a single instance of a favorite so I would like to see it added as well but Greg is correct that the stop button is not the way to implement this.

I would put a "Reschedule this Airing" command in Recording Options if it were me. It does what is needed and is easy to understand. The other workarounds like purposely creating a conflict and marking watched are not intuitive and a bit kludgy even if they would work.

Amen.

There should be 'cancel this recording' and 'stop recording and delete partial file' options when you press the Stop button (or Stop Recording and then Keep or Delete file submenu). Stop IS the place to start this dialog.

There should also be a 'cancel this recording' on the Recording Schedule menu.

I don't know about anyone else, but no matter how often I tell Sage I don't like certain programs it keeps recording them.

Also, sometimes when I cancel a recording in progress, it then starts recording it again. Very frustrating!!!

You might want to turn on the advanced negative profiling in the settings menu. Sage doesn't bring them back if I mark them don't like.

The biggest problem I have with IR recording things I've marked don't like is that it keeps trying to record the HD version of a favorite as an IR since the favorite is set for SD only.

We are dolts and cannot find a way to get Sage (default STV) to abandon and discard an in-progress recording of a favorite. CANCEL RECORDING menu does not stop it. Set Watched does not stop it.

For a Favorite setup as First Runs and Reruns, no "smart" recording scheduler, Sage seems to have no way to respond to a user who wants to cancel the current recording of that favorite.

So "learn us" how to do so.

Well my comment was about canceling a favorite before it recorded (or at least that was what I thought the post implied).

Otherwise I guess I'm not sure why it matters. So Sage records the whole program, if you mark it watched or don't like during then it still get's handled like any other show. Once it's done you can easily delete it if you really needed to.

I've had success stopping a Favorite Recording by setting the recording to a Manual recording, then Cancel the recording.
