general question about firewire recording.

I am thinking about setting up Firewire recording but..

I have always used firewire for channel changing. I have added a second HD box and hooked it up "daisy" chain to the firewire port on my first hd box and easily setup channel changing for it.

Since I have connected my second HD STB VLC no longer is capable of viewing content from EITHER stb. Whereas it was fine viewing from the first one.

Sorry on to the question.

So before I continue down my Firewire recording setup can you even have two STB's connected and be able to record from one of them?

Would it make a difference to connect each STB to it's own dedicated FW port on the PC?
